There are different lengths husbands can go to just to express their love for their wives. Some might get a bouquet of flowers. Others might dedicate two years to planting their wife’s favorite flowers for the scent, especially if she is blind.
Husband Shows Affection By Planting Flowers For Blind Wife
A Japanese husband showed his affection to his blind wife. She lost her sight due to complications from diabetes. The elderly couple, Mr. and Mrs. Kuroki, once ran a dairy farm in Shintomi Town in Miyazaki Prefecture. They planned on going on a trip around Japan after retirement. Unfortunately, after 30 years of marriage at age 52, Mrs. Kuroki lost her sight. Disheartened about letting go of the trip, she withdrew from the outside world.
Her Hubby Was Determined To Bring Back The Spark
To bring back the spark in his wife’s eyes, Mr. Kuroki dedicated two years to planting thousands of pink moss phloxes in their garden. Per Bored Panda, the loving husband hoped the smell of the flowers and visitors lured by their beauty would cheer his wife. Ten years later, about 7,000 people visit the garden daily during spring and see the photo displays of the couple’s life.
Grand Gestures Of Husbands Towards Their Wives
Another grand gesture was done in 2010 by Woody Thomas of Knots Island, North California. His wife, Diana asked him to plant a few flowers in front of their house. She wanted the blossoms to liven and occupy the empty land. Thomas instead sowed 3 acres of sunflower seeds.
A Historic Reference
Also, King Nebuchadnezzar II is said to have done the grandest romantic gesture. In the 6th century BCE, he built the famous Hanging Gardens of Babylon. This was to cheer his wife, Amytis of Babylon who was homesick and missed the beautiful nature of her native land.
Another Touching Love Story
A husband went all the way out in his tribute to his wife who died of cancer. Babbette Jaquish’s favorite flower was sunflowers. She was 66 years old when she died of cancer in November 2014. To serve as a tribute, her husband, Don Jaquish planted almost 400 acres of sunflowers. It took a week for Jaquish to plant the sunflowers which line Wisconsin’s Highway 85 in Eau Claire in June 2015.
He Grew The Flowers For A Long Time
His neighbors even rented out lands to him. After a growing period of 75 days, the flowers blossomed in August 2015. In an interview with ABC news in 2015, Jaquish explained he thought it would be a tribute to her to plant 4.5 miles of sunflowers.
He Made His Late Wife’s Wish Come To Pass
In 2006, Babbette was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. After her diagnosis, they planted hundreds of acres of sunflowers around their property. After a few years, she had the idea of selling sunflower seeds to help with cancer research. Unfortunately, she had 22 different cancer treatments over the years and could not start the business.
He Started Babbette’s Seed Of Hope
A month after her death, Jaquish made his wife’s dream come true and started Babbette’s Seeds of Hope. Every 25-pound bag of sunflower seeds purchased will be Babbette’s story. Jaquish stated he hopes they can one day find a cure for cancer.
