When a nanny gets hired, one of the things they’re getting paid for is discretion.
They should keep the family’s secrets as if they were their own, whether that’s the husband’s cheating , the wife’s wine addiction, or the weird quirks of the children.
But secrets can only remain secrets for so long. Here, a former nanny who worked with a wealthy family for years is spilling all of the tea .
Buzzfeed spoke to this anonymous nanny in an interview.
Without revealing the identity of this family, she did share that the couple worked in the entertainment industry. Since they are well-off, they lived in a mansion in a quiet, upscale neighborhood.
“They had a nice house. It was like the millionaire-next-door kind of thing,” the source said.
“A well-known actor lived only a mile away and would have celebrity friends over all the time.” That definitely sounds like a perk for the job.
Since most of the rich neighbors also had maids and nannies, the “help” would all make friends with each other.
“Everyone worked walking distance from each other,” they said. You can just imagine the “water cooler” talks they’d have about their employers.
The nanny’s day-to-day duties were pretty “normal.”
For instance, they would look after the kids, clean, do the laundry, and care for the family pet. Since the mother would do almost all of the cooking, they would assist with meal prepping.
Even though the family was wealthy, they found a way to be pretty cheap.
This is how the rich stay rich: they can be cheap with their money. One weird thing the husband did was steal paper towels and toilet paper from work.
“They never bought any — it was never on the grocery list,” the source said about the husband’s stealing.
“He was hoarding long before COVID.” Everything else about their lifestyle was pretty frugal. The one thing they did splurge on was food.
“When it came to food, they had the best quality. They didn’t go on vacations, didn’t spend money on decorating their home — they basically spent it all on food.”
These sound like our kind of people! Even most of their food was homemade.
They would hardly go out to eat and would even make food staples at home.
According to the nanny, this includes spaghetti sauce, bread, and dog food. She said this of the wife: “She was an excellent cook and baker.”
“They were very hands-on, even though they had a busy schedule.”
Another splurge for the wealthy family was their clothing. They wouldn’t even go to the dry cleaners themselves; they had a service that would pick up their clothes and then return them.
And we thought services like UberEats and DoorDash were cool.
When it came to the couple, the nanny described them as “polar opposites.” Words like “demanding,” “spoiled,” and “never afraid to yell at anyone” were used to describe the wife.
There was even a time when she yelled at the dry-cleaning delivery man.
When he was about to sit on their antique furniture, she quickly scolded him and said, ‘Don’t sit on my good chair.’”
Meanwhile, the husband was much more “down-to-earth.”
He was paranoid, though, and distrusting of his rich friends.
Whenever his friends came over for dinner parties, he would have the nanny follow them around to make sure they weren’t stealing anything. It sounds kind of exhausting to be rich, doesn’t it?
Both the husband and wife were particularly a**l about the nanny’s duties.
“They had a list of chores to be done, and if I didn’t do it right, I’d have to wake up at night to redo them,” the nanny said.
They demanded perfection.
“Every day, the husband would walk around the house with a magnifying glass and inspect the furniture to see if there were any nicks from vacuuming.” One time, the nanny had to wake up at 10 p.m. to repolish a brass faucet that the wife thought wasn’t done well enough.
Finally, the family was never short on drama.
“They would get into these raging arguments with each other and then sit down and have a nice meal together,” the source said. In addition to this, the nanny said that poor people didn’t really “cross the mind.”
Don’t these two just sound like a treat?! Not!
