What do you see first when you look at an image, and what does this say about you? You’ve probably heard of those inkblot images that ask that same question, but what about some more purposeful optical illusions rather than just random splotches?
These are the questions people are mulling over after a TikToker suggested that our response to optical illusions can serve as a kind of personality test.
What do you see when you look at an optical illusion?

Most of us see the image, let it wash over us, let it break our brain momentarily, then see it for what it really is. But is it possible that your first impression of an image says something about who you are?
A TikToker is asking these questions.

TikToker @itsme.fuzz , who specializes in optical illusions and brain teasers and things of that nature, released a short video explaining what our perception of optical illusions might mean.
Let’s dig in.
What do you see?

Personally, I’m not sure if this looks like anything. But a closer look shows that it could be a couple of things: perhaps a woman’s profile (look on the right), or a person playing a saxophone (look on the left).
What does it tell us?

This hasn’t been vetted by a psychologist or anything, so let that serve as a disclaimer. But @itsme.fuzz says if you see the image on the right — a woman’s profile — it means the right side of your brain is more developed, meaning you’re artistic. Likewise, if you see the saxophone image on the left, it means you’re more logical.
Do you buy it?

I’m not sure if there’s a correlation between noticing things on a certain side and that meaning that your brain is more developed on that side, but it’s interesting food for thought.
Ready for another?

Here’s the second optical illusion. Right away, I saw the tree in the middle, but after another moment, I saw the two faces looking at each other. Those are indeed the two things that can be seen in this image.
It comes down to right brain/left brain again.

For the second image, @itsme.fuzz says that seeing the tree means “you have a very high attention to detail.” Seeing the faces means “you’re much better at staying calm.”
For what it’s worth, neither of these claims is cited in any way.
It seems kind of dubious.

I love these images as much as the next person, because it’s always fun to see something hidden. But again, ascribing this stuff to left brain or right brain, and then assigning personality traits, seems about as accurate as a Magic 8-Ball.
Here’s the full video.
Maybe seeing @itsme.fuzz’s explanation in real time might sell the idea a little bit better. It’s an interesting concept, but I’m not convinced that it says anything about our personalities.
