Singer Adele, 34, gave an emotional interview about the backlash she faced for canceling her Las Vegas residency in January.
Adele is one of the most popular musicians making music, and her habit of totally retreating from the public eye between albums means that her shows are pretty rare. Fans who got tickets to her Las Vegas residency slated for January were upset when she canceled the show the day of the first performance, but Adele is speaking out against the backlash she received for this decision.

Adele announced the canceled residency with an emotional Instagram video on January 20th.
“I can’t give you what I have right now and I’m gutted. I’m gutted. And I’m sorry it’s so last minute.” she said . “We’ve been awake for over 30 hours now trying to figure it out. We’ve run out of time and I’m so upset and I’m really embarrassed.”
While she stated that the dates would be rescheduled, no new dates have been announced.
“I definitely felt everyone’s disappointment and I was devastated and I was frightened about letting them down,” Adele has said about canceling the shows in a new interview.
“I was a shell of a person for a couple of months. I just had to wait it out and just grieve it, I guess, just grieve the shows and get over the guilt, but it was brutal,” she said .
Adele revealed she stands by her decision.
“I thought I could pull it together and make it work and I couldn’t, and I stand by that decision. I’m not going to just do a show because I have to or because people are going to be let down or because we’re going to lose loads of money. I’m like, the show’s not good enough,” she said, adding that, “you can’t buy me.”
Some of Adele’s fans aren’t happy with this response.
“I mean, she waited less than 24 hours before the first show, people had flown in, checked into booked hotels and had spent extra for mandatory Covid tests just to get into the venue for her to cancel the entire residency while sitting in her mansion in LA. She’s been seen since at basketball games and parties and now had this huge show at Hyde Park; it’s obvious at this point she doesn’t give a shit. She needs to just release the ticket holders and let them get a refund,” wrote one Reddit user .
