Elon Musk, who is currently the richest person in the world, is now on track to become the world’s first ever trillionaire by 2027, and people don’t like the news.
He’s only getting richer
Despite all the backlash he’s been facing in recent years and during his time with DOGE, Elon Musk’s fortune keeps growing.
According to Forbes, his net worth currently sits at $412 billion, up an eye-watering $6.4 billion in the past trading day.
He’s likely to hit the milestone soon
Reports by several publications over the past year have said that the Tesla and SpaceX CEO is on track to becoming a trillionaire by 2027.
For a bit of perspective, a trillion is twelve zeros, written as 1,000,000,000,000.
The internet is not happy
As you can imagine, people were not pleased after learning this information.
Many on X, the social media app that was officially called Twitter before Musk bought it, pointed out that he has the means to solve issues like world hunger, but hasn’t done so.
People started commenting under a viral post
A post that shared the news went viral when people started replying and quoting it with their thoughts on Musk’s growing wealth.
One person wrote, “Fun reminder that Elon Musk is rich enough that he could personally end homelessness in the US without it changing his lifestyle in any way, shape, or form and actively chooses not to.”
Some wondered about the structure of society
Some users highlighted their dismay with the way society is structured, with one person writing, “Something deeply evil about a society that creates a trillionaire before it solves homelessness or hunger.”
Another user echoed, “I don’t think that we as a society should be fine with this.”
Other users spoke about capitalism
Others online pointed out that capitalistic structures are the reason for the existence of such wealth.
One user sarcastically wrote, “Capitalism is better than socialism because one man gets to be a trillionaire instead of everyone having healthcare.”
Some pointed out the struggle with essentials
The information also had people pointing out that many are struggling to buy their groceries, comparing Musk’s incomprehensible wealth with having to wait until the end of the month for essentials.
“A lot of us can’t afford groceries,” wrote one person. Another said, “I can’t go grocery shopping until I get paid again on Friday, but congrats Elon!”
