With the harsh criticism that the Roar singer has been facing, Katy Perry is showing the world that she’s in on everything through her response to the satirical news site The Onion.
The Onion took to social media on Thursday, May 1, and posted a satirical headline about Perry, in light of the hate that she’s been receiving. Perry had a shocking response that took people by surprise.
The Onion‘s post was out of the box
The satirical news site posted a photo of Perry with a headline that read: “Katy Perry Teases New Single ‘Stop Making Fun of Me.’”
They even took their post up a notch and captioned it with a made-up quote of Perry saying: “‘Working with Dr. Luke on my fav single in years—this is for the ladies out there who can’t catch a goddamn break even though they’re seriously trying their best.’”
The post even had a sampling of lyrics to the fake song
“‘I’m not messing around anymore/ You’re killing my self-esteem with these cruel comments/ And it really hurts’ can be heard over a pounding four-on-the-floor beat,” the caption concluded.
Anyone might have taken this post silently but definitely not Katy Perry.
She took the post in stride
Perry took the post light-heartedly, leaving a comment that said: “This photo is clearly photoshopped I would never let my Botox go that long, do better The Onion!”
The comment section was flooded with Katy Perry supporters and with those who wanted to keep the joke going alike.
Her fans were there for her
“CAME HERE CAUSE KATY’S COMMENT ENDING THIS FLOP ACCOUNT,” one fan wrote. “Katy Perry hate is so forced,” a second added.
A third gave her all the praise, saying: “She’s a queen after all.”
While others hunted for more satire
“New single titled ‘girls just need space’ released with a music video featuring astronaut recently stuck in space for 9 months. Receives immediate backlash,” one user jokingly wrote in the comments section.
“Involuntarily added to your playlists over on amazon music,” added another.
Why Perry has been facing so much backlash
Firstly, she reunited with Dr. Luke to produce her latest album, 143. Dr. Luke was accused of sexually assaulting and drugging Kesha and that’s why people weren’t fond of the idea of him, or Perry collaborating with him.
Additionally, her high-profile trip to space in April didn’t work on her side as she took advantage of the trip to announce the setlist for her Lifetimes Tour. The internet had its share of fun with this, creating memes, gifs, and jokes.
Pery took it “with grace”
She took to Instagram to write about people attacking her, saying:
“When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed.”
