Donald Trump is being called out on social media for his latest social media post.
He shared a graphic airstrike video on Truth Social
On Friday, April 4, Donald Trump posted this pretty intense video on his Truth Social account. It showed what looked like a military airstrike hitting Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The video shows people gathering before a deadly explosion
In the clip, we can see what looks like drone footage capturing a big group of people, maybe around 70, all standing in kind of an oval shape. Then out of nowhere, this massive blast goes off. After that, you can see bodies everywhere around this huge crater in a disturbing image.
In defense, Trump claimed the targets were planning an attack
The 78-year-old US president said the people in the video were “Houthi terrorists” getting ready to hit commercial ships in the Red Sea, near the Suez Canal in Egypt.
He added a caption with the post that said, “These Houthis gathered for instructions on an attack. Oops, there will be no attack by these Houthis! They will never sink our ships again!”
The Houthis are described as enemies of Israel
The Houthis are an armed group with political and religious ties—mostly made up of Zaydi Shia Muslims. Apparently, they see Israel as the enemy.
Trump shared a proud comment saying that the Houthis have been ‘heavily weakened’
He claimed that the “Iran-backed Houthi terrorists” had been pretty much wiped out after all the airstrikes in the past two weeks. He posted on March 31, saying, “Many of their fighters and leaders are no longer with us. We hit them every day and night—harder and harder. Their ability to mess with shipping and the region is getting destroyed fast.”
Ironically, this strike was made after the leaked war chats
Trump said it loud and clear, “Our attacks will keep going until they stop being a threat to freedom of navigation. The choice for the Houthis is simple: stop attacking U.S. ships, and we’ll stop attacking you.”
He didn’t hold back, adding, “Otherwise, we’ve barely even started. The real pain is coming, not just for the Houthis, but for their backers in Iran too.”
People couldn’t believe that the US president posted something like that
On X, one user called it out, saying, “It was a tribal gathering. They were just villagers celebrating Eid ul-Fitr, and you bombed them.”
Another person added, “You promised to end the war, but instead, you just made it worse.” And someone else pointed out, “It was a celebration, something that tribes in Yemen do all the time.”
Of course, the White House defends the military operation
After all the backlash, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the strikes on Tuesday. She said, “Iran is incredibly weakened because of these attacks, and we’ve seen they’ve taken out Houthi leaders.”
lShe went on, “They’ve taken out key people who were launching attacks on naval ships and commercial vessels, and this operation won’t stop until freedom of navigation is restored in the region.” She also mentioned that more than 200 strikes were carried out in just one day.
