Relationships are complicated, with either side deciding whether they want to see the other person again.
Recently, a user on Reddit told a story about when he decided he wouldn’t be going on a second date with a woman. This prompted him to ask other men the red flags that erase the possibility of a second date.
The original poster started with his own story

Having prompted the question of what makes men decide not to go on a second date, the Redditor first shared a time he did exactly that.
Telling the story of a date he went on at 19 years old, the Redditor wrote, “When I picked her up from her place, she was absolutely glued to her cellphone.”
The user had to ditch the date

His date had only been on her phone during their one-hour drive and even at their table, so much that they couldn’t have an “actual conversation.” The user decided to ditch the date without telling her.
Tipping the waiter to put his dinner in a ‘to go’ box, he left without telling the girl, who only noticed 45 minutes later and called him to ask where he was.
Other users started sharing their bad first dates

The original poster pointed out that what turned him off from the girl was that she was constantly on her phone, having not had a full conversation with him the entire night.
This prompted him to ask other men what made them decide they wouldn’t ask a girl on a second date, and they came up with answers.
Another user’s date was on her phone

“I invited her to the theater and a nice meal, trying to give her some conversation while she was on her phone the whole time.” – u/frikanih.
The Redditor later found out his date was on her phone, planning to meet another guy that night.
This one didn’t even feel like a date

A special ed teacher in his mid-30s wrote about the bad first date he had where the woman had been the one to ask him out.
On the date, she only ever spoke about two topics: how he should care for her kids and how she dislikes men. Yikes.
Tinder dates are not always a good idea

“She spent the entire night talking about her company (almost like a sales pitch) and nothing about herself or any questions for me.” – u/JamesTrotter.
After his Tinder date ordered many different items, pitched her company to him, and made him pay the full bill, he decided he wouldn’t be going on a second date.
An art festival date asked someone an awkward question

u/Dpg2304 shared that he had asked a girl on a date at an art festival. When she came back to his place, “she casually pulled out a meth pipe and asked if I ‘got down.’ I never noped out of something so fast in my life.”
Another Redditor had an awkward experience

“She told me some friends were coming over with cocaine, and since they didn’t know me, I needed to leave.” – u/Exciting-Half3577.
Well, it makes sense that he decided against a second date. Imagine being told to leave your date for this; that’s super awkward.
One man said his outing wasn’t even a date

“It wasn’t even a date, but she started an altercation with a drunk guy at the train station and wouldn’t let it go” – u/Justmyoponionman.
“She nearly got ME into a fight with some random dude. She was otherwise seemingly nice and pleasant, but that was an immediate, f–k no. Even as friends,” he wrote.
One man’s date was disrespectful to the staff

“She was awful to the wait staff and that’s just insufferable to be around.” – u/HeartonSleeve1989.
Yup, that would be a dealbreaker for me too. Having no respect for restaurant staff members says a lot about a person.
One man felt he saw a lot of red flags

A user shared that his date invited him to her home for a smoke.
“I mean, that could have been a good time, a bad time, or just a time, but ‘come back to my place to smoke weed with my mom and friends within an hour of meeting me’ just threw a lot of weird flags.” – u/AnAcceptableUserName.
A hangout with a girl at college was strange for one user

“She told me she didn’t wash her hair or body with anything but water and only showered once a week. I stayed around for the required hour and then made up an excuse that I had homework.” – u/SyFyFan93.
The girl later invited him back to her dorm, but he decided not to go.
One girl’s eating habits threw a user off

“Went to a nice restaurant, and she ordered chicken wings. She bit into each of them once, right down the middle, and threw the rest away. I would say there’s about 40%-60% meat left on each wing. I was disgusted.” – u/chicu111.
I guess you have to find someone who enjoys food like you do.
One Redditor had two dates before calling it quits

A user went on a dog-walking date with a girl who constantly yelled at the dog, which made him worry she had controlling tendencies.
“She would yell at him if he pulled her to smell something. It really rubbed me the wrong way. I could see her controlling and potentially abusive/narcissistic behavior that I would see come out toward ME once any honeymoon phase wore off.” – u/RVNAWAYFIVE.
A user’s date showed up with her kids

“She showed up with her two kids and the babysitter. They would sit at another table, and naturally, they expected me to pay. I left immediately.” – u/RandomlyPlacedFinger.
Yeah, some dates turn into horror stories, but hey, at least they’re stories you can tell at fun gatherings!
