Tom Cruise has always been a total daredevil.
He’s scaled buildings, hung off the side of planes, and rode fast motorcycles.

But if there was one stunt that left him queasy, it wasn’t heights or even the time he broke his ankle.
Nope, it was chocolate cake. Keep reading to learn how this one stunt left him sick to his stomach.
Tom Cruise is 58 years old, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at him.
Or, by the fact that he’s still performing his own dangerous stunts.
It’s something he’s been doing his entire career, like when he worked on The Outsiders during the ’80s. He was the only actor who could do a backflip.
When his co-star, Rob Lowe, was on Dax Shepard’s *Armchair Expert* podcast, he shared that Tom was pretty “relentless” in performing his own stunts in the film.
The backflip even made it into the film for “no reason,” Lowe said . “Just to do it,” he said about Tom.
This is something that Cruise has carried with him since.
One of the most dangerous stunts he’s performed himself was scaling the world’s tallest building in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in 2011.
He dangled in a harness 1,700 feet off the ground in a harness that was removed in post-production.
In *Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation*, he really hung off the side of a plane in mid-air.
He performed the stunt eight times off the massive Airbus A400M, which reached heights of 5,000 feet.
“I was scared [expletive]” Cruise admitted at CinemaCon . “I want to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.”
Some of these dangerous stunts have led to injuries over the years.
Back in 2017, he broke his ankle while performing a stunt in Mission: Impossible – Fallout .
This took place during a rooftop chase stunt filmed in London. While on The Graham Norton Show in 2018, he explained how the injury happened.
“I was chasing Henry and was meant to hit the side of the wall and pull myself over but the mistake was my foot hitting the wall,” he explained.
“I knew instantly my ankle was broken and I really didn’t want to do it again so just got up and carried on with the take.”
He continued: “I said, ‘It’s broken. That’s a wrap. Take me to hospital’ and then everyone got on the phone and made their vacation arrangement.”
In addition to physical harm, the actor has experienced stunts that made him want to vomit.
He shared this interesting fact during a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show .
According to Cruise, this took place while filming Francis Ford Coppola’s *The Outsiders*.
“I was working with [director Francis Ford] Coppola, and I was like, ‘You know what, I’m going to eat chocolate cake in the scene.’… I had to do it in the scene, it’s part of the character, I’m going to eat chocolate cake,” he said.
This ended up being a very bad idea since Coppola filmed 100 takes of the scene over three days.
While you would think having to eat endless amounts of chocolate cake would be heaven, it left Cruise in “sugar shock.”
This made him vomit, he said.
This wouldn’t the first time an actor got sick from eating food during a scene.
When Chris Evans filmed Knives Out , director Rian Johnson thought that it would be neat for Chris’s character, Ransom, to eat a lot of Belgium cookies (they went great with those cable-knit sweaters).
But since those cookies coat your throat in butter, Johnson felt terrible over Evans “pounding these things all day long.”
Yikes! Well, we’re sure Tom Cruise would take chocolate cake or Belgium cookies over breaking his ankle off a building again!
