Considering they’re supposed to be magical and enjoyable, weddings are incredibly stressful undertakings, full of all kinds of drama. Those magical nuptials take a lot of effort and planning to pull off, after all.
Still, despite the expected drama and stress, sometimes the people involved find new and interesting drama to suffer through. For example, a (former) bridesmaid asked Reddit if she was in the right after she cut her hair, got kicked out of a bridal party, and then took her friend to court.

It was a three-day wedding. Bridesmaids had to wear three different dresses and rock three different hairstyles.
Unfortunately, OP says her hair started to deteriorate. After it started falling out, she decided to cut her hair.
“I told the bride about my decision two weeks before the wedding and she didn’t say anything bad,” wrote OP. “The following week, she came over to my house and when she was about to leave, she brought up that she was concerned about my haircut and I told her it would look good even though I wouldn’t be uniform with the other bridesmaids.”

The bride told OP that she felt disrespected by the hair situation and kicked OP out of the wedding, writing:
“Your inconsistencies have concerned me and while I sympathize with your health concerns, I’m not willing to compromise my vision to accommodate you (or anyone else) when you have informed me in advance and we could have found a better solution. Since this something you can no longer fully commit to, I need you to please step down from participating in my wedding.”
“I immediately sent her and her husband an invoice asking them to reimburse for the dresses and shoes. Keeping in mind that one of the dresses is still in her possession even though I paid for it. Neither of them replied and so I decided to take it the court.”
OP says she was called inconsistent and selfish for this move.
“When I agreed to be her bridesmaid I was more than willing to oblige with what she asked even if, at times, it was a lot of time and money,” she wrote. “So am I the [jerk] for taking her to court because she kicked me out for cutting my hair?”
Is there a written contract?
While virtually everyone said OP wasn’t being a jerk, a reasonable point was raised in one of the top comments: despite the unfairness and hurt feelings, it’s going to be awfully hard to recoup those losses in court without some kind of contract.
Very few people thought OP was in the wrong.
“Those are your dresses and your shoes,” wrote one poster. “You did make a material change. It sucks all around. But don’t take them to court. Jeez.”
Another commenter said that the bride is definitely a bridezilla, but pointed out that “immediately sending an invoice” needlessly escalated something that might have been solved more amicably.
“She shamed you for being ill.”
“Get your money back and cut your losses,” wrote another Redditor. “Don’t let anyone make you feel as if you’re in the wrong!”
This was a common theme. Apparently even the other bridesmaids have reached out to OP to express their sorrow, but have stayed in the bridal party.
