In a devastating developing story, Canadian actor Rick Moranis was the victim of an unprovoked attack in Manhattan, New York on Thursday, according to CBS New York .
According to police, the attack happened in broad daylight just before 7:30 a.m. on October 1 in Central Park West, near 70th Street.

Rick Moranis, 67, is best known for his roles in *Honey, I Shrunk The Kids*, *Ghostbusters*, and *Little Shop of Horrors*.
The actor famously left his Hollywood career back in 1997 to raise his two children after his wife, Ann, died of cancer.
But as he told *The Hollywood Reporter* back in 2015, he never formally retired.
“I took a break, which turned into a longer break,” he told the publication.
“But I’m interested in anything that I would find interesting,” he continued.
“I still get the occasional query about a film or television role and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I’ll probably do it.”
Of course, it was announced earlier this year that Rick would be starring in the *Honey, I Shrunk The Kids* reboot, *Shrunk*.
The new film will be directed by Joe Johnston, the same director who worked on the first film!
The reboot will take place decades after the first, with Hollywood SWEETIE Josh Gad starring as Rick’s grown-up son.
Now, in a tragic turn of events, Rick was the victim of an unprovoked attack in Manhattan On Thursday morning. NYPD Crime Stoppers posted the surveillance video on Twitter.
The video shows the suspect walk up and punch the 67-year-old in the head, knocking him to the ground, before walking away.
Police say Moranis went to the hospital with pain in his head, back, and hip, before visiting the precinct to report the crime.
Fans have been sending their well wishes and messages of support to the beloved actor on social media.
Celebrities have also been using their platform to spread awareness and find Moranis’ attacker, including Hollywood hunk Chris Evans.
“My blood is boiling. Find this man. You don’t touch Rick Moranis,” he tweeted .
“Should have known not to subject Rick to the year 2020. Glad to hear he’s okay,” tweeted Ryan Reynolds in solidarity.
