Nurses Sing Backstreet Boys To Cancer Patient Who Missed Concert For Treatment

A nurse's job is certainly never an easy one. These are the people who consistently do everything they can to ensure their patients are well taken care of, and as this story shows, sometimes they really go above and beyond for the people who come through their hospital doors.

When a Backstreet Boys superfan was forced to miss the band's concert to undergo cancer treatment, the nurses at her hospital decided to put together an impromptu show and serenade her with some of the Boys' top hits, People reported.

Amanda Coley, 36, has been a major Backstreet Boys fan since she was a teenager, when the group was at its peak popularity.

So the mom of four was understandably over the moon this past Christmas when her husband surprised her with a ticket to go and see the band in Atlanta as part of their DNA World Tour.

What's even better, her sister, Maggie Kingston, was given another ticket by her own husband.

Amanda and Maggie eagerly awaited the August 21 concert, and grew more and more excited the closer it became.

However, in a devastating turn of events, Amanda was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of August, just weeks before the concert.

"We found out about three weeks ago that she had leukemia," Maggie explained. "She was like, 'So I can't go tot he Backstreet Boys concert?' That was the first thing she said."

With all her cancer treatments, there was no way Amanda would be able to attend the show.

Rightfully devastated, she still insisted that her sister go without her, but Maggie told her, "I'm not gonna go if you don't go!"

With plenty of tears shared between them, the sisters agreed to forgo the concert. But as the concert drew near, Maggie knew she wanted to do something special for Amanda.

She teamed up with Amanda's friend, Celena Townsend, to plan a special surprise for the Backstreet Boys superfan.

Initially, it was supposed to be a fun afternoon spent eating junk food and listening to music in Amanda's hospital room. But after invitations were handed out to staff throughout the floor, the nurses decided to go one step further and turn this mini get-together in a full-blown party.

A group of nurses showed up in Amanda's room, armed with music and ready to put on a show for the woman.

Together, they performed three Backstreet Boys numbers, clapping and singing the hits as Amanda happily joined in from her hospital bed.

"I was crying," Maggie admitted. "It was really emotional. We were just in awe. Amanda danced with them! She was in heaven. She said ti was really cool and emotion. She shed a couple happy tears."

A video of the impromptu performance has been viewed over 30,000 times.

Posted to Facebook, the clip shows the tremendous staff at Atlanta's Northside Hospital putting on the show for the grateful patient as they all sing along to the Backstreet Boys hit song, "Everybody."

"I went up there with a speaker and cake and now it's everywhere," Maggie said. "We thought it would die down... I'm just like, 'Wow!' Amanda loves it, it's something for her to do. She's still in the hospital so it's something for her to read and do."

The video even caught the attention of Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, who tweeted to the ladies after finding it on Twitter.

"We missed you last night Amanda!" Carter wrote. "Looks (and sounds) like you have a great team helping you get better."

Maggie said the tweet, as well as the entire performance, made for the perfect pick-me-up for her sister.

"It's emotional," she admitted. "It's joyful and her spirits are so lifted because of something so small — well, something I thought was going to be so small.”
