Air New Zealand's 'Skycouch' Service Turns Economy Seats Into Beds

Air travel is notoriously uncomfortable. If you're able to fly the friendly skies at the front of the plane in first-class, your trip may not be so terrible. It may even be a pretty decent experience.

But for the rest of us common folk at the back flying economy, air travel can become exhausting hours-long trips spent dealing with uncomfortable seats, loud passengers, and endless turbulence. Sleep is definitely not an option.

Or is it?

Air New Zealand has taken a step to make plane rides significantly more comfortable for those in economy.

According to LADBible, the airline is now giving its passengers the option to purchase new "Skycouch" seats which transform into impromptu beds when needed.

No longer will you have to deal with trying to sleep sitting upright with your legs cramped in the space between your seat and the one in front of you. Now you can enjoy snoozing in an actual bed like a normal person.

Skycouch works by turning a row of three economy-class seats into a makeshift bed.

The beds feature special harnesses to keep sleepers safe, especially in the event that your plane hits some turbulent patches.

If you're worried about trying to share your sleeping space with strangers, fear not: if you opt for the Skycouch service, you're booking the entire row. If you only need two seats, you can book the third for a significantly discounted price. If you're buying out the entire row for one person, it'll cost you a bit more, but trust that it'll be well worth the price.

One happy flyer has already shared her delight at using the Skycouch service for her and her family.

Australia-based mommy blogger Adele Barbaro wrote about flying with Air New Zealnad on Facebook and said the flight was "so comfy" thanks to the option of snoozing on a bed.

"It's the next best thing to business (but way cheaper) and perfect for long haul flights with young families," she wrote. "It's nice to arrive and start our holiday without being sleep deprived!"

Barbaro's post has since gone viral, racking up over 22,000 reactions from seriously impressed flyers.

Some people have taken to the comments to express their desire to fly with such a luxurious option in economy-class. Others who have experienced the Skycouch service for themselves echoed Barbaro's approval.

"Best thing we did was get the Skycouch for our holiday," one user wrote. "Kids slept 7 out of 14 hour flight, that's a win for me."
