Home Expert Shares Easy Tips To Keep Your Home Warm During The Winter

Well, winter sure is here.

With those cold temperatures comes freezing toes, freezing cars, and freezing homes. Luckily for us, TikTok user @thatpropertyguy has some super helpful tips for keeping us warm while at home!

That's great news for me, because it's currently -40° where I am. Let's learn how to survive this winter, shall we?

First, some radiator tips:

If you have a radiator, make sure to bleed it to release the air built up inside it! You can also buy some radiator reflector foil and put it behind the unit for extra insulation.

Adjust the valves, too.

You can adjust your thermostatic valve to get maximum heat from your radiator! If you need more information on how to do that and how your radiator works, check out this handy guide!

Make your life easier with an automated thermostat.

To save on heating bills and stay comfy, automate your thermostat! Set it to be lower when you're away, then crank it up when you're on your way home. Keep cozy and keep your wallet full!

Make sure your windows are covered.

Windows are a huge source of heat loss — even when they're closed. Make sure they're covered by as many layers as possible. I've seen frost form on the inside of a window before, so make sure those babies are covered!

Move your furniture away from the radiator.

You're heating your room, not your furniture! Get it away from the wall so that you can better heat distribution in your room. No use in having hot furniture, you know?

Keep the wind out.

Proper insulation is the key to happiness. Your home needs proper insulation to keep the wind out. If you don't have access to your insulation, seal up all your doors and windows to keep the draft out.

Use what you have.

Rugs are a great way to make sure heat stays in your room. Who wants to step on a cold, tile floor? Not me, that's for sure.

You can also run your oven in a pinch.

Bundle up!

If there's one thing you absolutely need to do, it's layer! Pop some cozy socks on over your regular socks to keep your heat in your body. Slip some heating pads in there, too!
