While it may seem strange that a pet could drive a wedge in a couple’s relationship, it turns out that it happens more often than we might expect.
The fact is that for a lot of people, pets are an important source of comfort when they’re feeling their most vulnerable and just a darling companion when times are happier. And sadly, not all romantic partners approach this knowledge with the noblest of intentions.

Whether they see a person’s pet as an opportunity to control them, resent how much their partner loves the pet, or just really hate the animal at large, these individuals prove time and time again that they’re not above taking those frustrations out on beloved creatures.
But as one story of betrayal illustrates, that behavior rarely leads to the results that the person responsible hopes it will.
For longer than the man we’re about to hear from has known his girlfriend, he’s had a black cat named Raven.
We can see the three-year-old cat in question here and the man explained in a Reddit post that when his girlfriend of two years moved in a few weeks prior, she was not a fan of this little guy.
But while this didn’t seem like a major problem to the man at first, that changed when he came home one day to find that Raven was missing.
And this was a serious problem for him because Raven is not an outdoor cat and normally has no desire to go outside.
In his words, “He was gone for hours and I was worried sick until my buddy came to my house and returned him, saying he found him 2 blocks from my house.”
This led the man to ask his girlfriend how Raven had even managed to get out, at which point she admitted that she had kicked him out of the house.
Naturally, this made the man very upset and he told her she had no right to do that to his cat.
And since she apparently thought she had that kind of power, he told her she had until the end of the month to leave his house.
And while she started crying and claimed she would have to live on the streets because she had nowhere else to go, he held firm on that time limit.
As he said, “My friends think I’m being too harsh, but my cat could have died because of her and I don’t want her trying anything else.”
And the Reddit community he reached out to didn’t know what his friends were thinking since they figured the cat wasn’t safe for as long as the girlfriend lived there.
And as we’ll see, they also didn’t necessarily buy her apparent desperation and thought this was a bad sign of things to come if he stayed with her.
In the words of one user, “She figured out how to live separately from you until a few weeks ago, she can figure it out again.”
As another person put it , “If she thinks it’s acceptable to do that with something as important as a pet, then she thinks she can do that with any aspect of your life she doesn’t like.
The cat is important, but almost irrelevant in the scope of red flags she’s throwing out.”
