Man Makes It His Mission To Adopt Old Dogs Who Can’t Find Forever Homes

Many people in life are dog people. They have pets that become family and their very best friends.

Living your life with a furry friend can make everything better. You always have someone to greet you, happily, when you get home, and you always have someone to look forward to. Dogs truly are a man's best friend, most definitely.

In life, dogs often times leave us before we are ready.

As dogs do not have as long of a life span as humans do, many of us have to suffer the pain and sadness of losing our beloved companions.

And, when they do pass, they leave behind an empty hole that we need to fill.

One dog dad went through this experience himself firsthand.

Steve Greig lost his beloved companion and felt the emptiness in his life that he wanted to fill.

So, he decided to go to a rescue center to get a new pal that he can raise and keep at home. But, he didn't go to just any adoption center, he went somewhere special.

Greig went to the local rescue center in Denver, Colorado.

And, while most people go to adopt a puppy so that they can grow with them, Greig decided to take home the "least adoptable" senior dog.

He ended up taking home a 12-year-old Chihuahua with a heart murmur.

From there, Greig began his adoption process.

Greig later adopted nine other senior dogs from the shelter and began his dog family at his home.

The ten senior dogs were ones that had been there for quite some time and were "not wanted" by other families.

Growing up, Greig's parents were "animal lovers."

“Both my parents were animal lovers. They pretty much always let me have whatever I wanted as long as I could take care of it," he said.

Luckily, that helped Greig learn how to care for animals of all kinds.

His days start rather early.

“A normal day for me is getting up at 5 a.m. in the morning and making breakfast for all of them," Greig told Bored Panda.

The dogs are older, so each of them has a different diet, so cooking them breakfast and getting it ready can be a lot.

He also has to make sure they get their medication.

As it goes with older dogs, many of them are on medications.

So, he has to be sure after breakfast he can give them medications that they need so they can remain healthy and okay.

Greig does have a full-time job.

However, he comes home during his lunch breaks so that he can walk all of his dogs together and he can also give them treats.

All dogs need some love, too, so Greig is able to see them all before he goes back to work for the rest of the day.

Additionally, he shares that senior dogs are just "wiser."

Most dogs who are seniors are usually well trained and also housebroken, unlike puppies and younger dogs, which you have to train and teach.

That can be a lot of work and also a lot of time.

Fortunately, all of the dogs get along well.

The dogs all get along very well and they also make Greig's house feel "full" and he's super happy that all of them are able to find their forever homes, as long as they have left in their lives.

Greig also has other animals, too.

Greig also has a pig named Bikini, two ducks, some pigeons, cats, and even has chickens. He shares all of his photos and his animals on his Instagram account, @wolfgang2242.

Follow them and all of their adventures!
