Ryan Gosling May Play Ken In Live-Action 'Barbie' Movie And The Internet Has A Lot To Say About It

There's hardly been a more long-lasting or impactful toy than the Barbie Doll. Over the course of the last 60-plus years, Barbie has become a cultural icon — helping to teach young girls that they can do anything.

Recently, it was announced that a live-action Barbie movie is in the works. As if that weren't exciting enough, it appears as if Ryan Gosling is now set to star as Ken!

Ryan Gosling has been captivating the hearts and minds of viewing audiences since he was a tween.

Ryan was first bitten by the acting bug when he was only a child. At the age of 13, he joined the Mickey Mouse Club, alongside Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.

His big break came at the turn of the millennium after appearing in a little film called *Remember The Titans*.

Even though it's been more than 20 years since Remember the Titans first released, the film is still hailed as a modern-day sports classic. Although Ryan didn't play a major part, his acting prowess was impossible to ignore.

From there, Ryan went on to land the movie that would inevitably make him a household name: *The Notebook*.

Ryan plays Noah in the film; a humble yet driven young man who falls in love with a woman far above his station. He and co-star Rachel McAdams had audiences weeping all over the world.

Hard as it is to imagine, Ryan hasn't appeared on film in more than three years.

The last time he graced us with a big screen performance was in 2018's semi-autobiographical drama First Man. Ryan portrayed Neil Armstrong — the first man to walk on the moon.

The good news is that it looks like we won't have to wait much longer for Ryan's return!

According to reports from Deadline, Ryan is in the final stages of contract negotiation to star as Ken in Greta Gerwig's forthcoming Barbie project!

As if that wasn't exciting enough, Ryan will be starring opposite Margot Robbie!

I don't know about you but as far as I'm concerned — casting directors couldn't have dreamt up a better pair to play Barbie and Ken. Not only do Ryan and Margot possess all of the pre-requisite physical attributes, but their acting ability is unquestionable.

In the wake of this announcement, the internet has been positively abuzz.

Barbie has been a cultural icon for more than 60 years. She's meant so much to so many different people — most of whom have their own strong opinion on the matter.

A good number of fans were positively elated by the news that Ryan would be starring as Ken.

"Well this movie just became amazing!" said Twitter user @GraceRandolph. Many were quick to point out how well Ryan handled similar roles in films like Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Others, were far less enthused over the news.

What about Ryan Gosling screams Ken?! Oh, I don't know, maybe it's his devilishly handsome good looks, his chiseled features, undeniable charm, and heartwarming smile...should I keep going?

Some even went so far to suggest other actors to play the part.

"chris evans[sic] would’ve been so perfect as ken," Twitter user @thegirlinlust.

Hey, I love Chris Evans as much as the next person. But if you're going to cherry-pick an MCU star to play Ken, how could you not land on Chris Hemsworth?

If all goes according to plan, the live-action *Barbie* movie will premiere sometime in 2023.

Until then, audiences and Barbie diehards alike will have to wait with bated breath for an official confirmation. Hopefully, it won't be too long until we're made to realize how fantastic life in plastic can be.
