We all have some bad ideas from time to time, but we can sometimes find that the low quality of an idea doesn’t always stop others from being inspired by it.
And it’s hard to find a better explanation than this for why so many ill-advised trends seem to spread through TikTok with worrying speed and regularity.
And while some of the health and beauty hacks that can emerge from that platform simply don’t work , others take their uselessness a step further by endangering the health of people who try them.
That’s why medical professionals on TikTok are so quick to shut them down and they’ve been warning against one particularly inconvenient “hack” just in time for Halloween.
As people get creative with their Halloween costumes, they may find themselves in need of some vampire fangs.
And as we can see from this TikTok, some users on that platform have apparently heard that a good way to keep them on for the night is to paste them onto their teeth with glue they would otherwise use on their nails.
And unfortunately, many of them are finding that this strategy works a little too well.
And that’s because when they try to take them off, they’ll find that the fangs won’t budge.
This was particularly true for a user named @muawk, who uploaded a video of herself brushing her teeth with the fangs still attached the following day.
As she put it in the video’s caption, “Okay I need actual help!!!! I used nail glue (yes I’m dumb) but how do I get them off!!!”
And Illinois dentist Dr. Julie Davis had an answer for her, but it’s probably not as easy as what she was looking for.
According to Good Morning America , Davis said that if they don’t fall off on their own, her safest option is to have a dentist remove them.
She also offered to take care of them herself, but it might not be convenient to take her up on that offer if the TikToker doesn’t live in the Chicago area.
But while there aren’t many options after the fangs have already been attached, another dentist from Michigan named Dr. Zainab Mackie advised people on what to use instead of nail glue.
After all, as she put it, “It’s poisonous and won’t come off.”
Instead, she advised that anyone attaching acrylic nails to their teeth for the vampire effect should use either denture glue or orthodontic wax.
Both are safe and easy to take off, but the wax works best for those who want to take them off right after they take their photos because it doesn’t stay on for as long.
