Everyone likes getting away for a holiday, but one chihuahua recently had its hopes of sneaking onto a family holiday dashed when it was discovered tucked away in a suitcase prior to boarding.
The chihuahua is incredibly lucky that it had been discovered prior to the flight — however, it was a close cut thing!
While at Lubbock Airport, Jared Owens and his wife Kristi found that their luggage was over the weight limit.
When they opened their suitcase to see what was the cause, they discovered something lurking inside a cowboy boot.
"They put it on the scale and this bag is basically like five, five and a half pounds overweight. Really quickly we are like, oh, we have got to rearrange some stuff. Opens it up and literally, there’s our dog coming out of my boot, coming out of my boot with his head bopping up," Mr Owens told KCBD.
Fortunately, the Owens had a family member nearby who was able to look after Icky. However, the airline attendant who helped find Icky was apparently offering to take her:
"Shout out to Cathy with #southwestairlines for her awesome customer service!! She offered to watch Icky until we got back!!" Mr Owens wrote in a Facebook post.
People across the internet were amazed by the story and elated that Icky had been luckily found, with one person writing, "Glad they found [her]. I don't think [she] would have survived. Yikes."
Some individuals also shared tales of their own pets' escapades: "That reminds me of the time that my cat hitched a ride on a hunting trip inside of a sleeping bag."
While Icky will be missing out on a trip to Vegas, she is lucky that the suitcase was over the weight limit! Hopefully the Owens will buy her a separate suitcase for her to bury in instead?
