Amy Schumer Got Her Uterus And Appendix Removed Due To Health Struggles

Amy Schumer may be a comedian, but her latest struggle is no laughing matter.

The I Feel Pretty actress recently had her uterus and appendix removed due to health struggles with the painful condition, endometriosis.

Since almost 200 million women suffer from this painful condition, she's received a lot of praise and support for spreading awareness.

Amy Schumer has battled many health conditions over the years.

When she was pregnant with her son, Gene, she had hyperemesis gravidarum, which is a severe form of morning sickness.

"I threw up violently and felt sick mostly every day of my pregnancy. Hyperemesis is real and it's awful," she wrote on Instagram.

She was even forced to cancel her comedy tour to these complications.

After her son was born, she made sure to proudly display her C-section scar.

A lot of women are shamed for getting a c-section but Amy is not here to stand for that.

She also opened up about her decision to stop breastfeeding her son after a month.

She explained that he didn't latch and she didn't want to push him.

After all, each child is different, and what's more important than anything is making sure they get fed in whatever way possible.

Once she and her husband, Chris, decided to go for baby #2 via IVF, she's been candid about the struggles that come with that, too.

"I'm a week into IVF and feeling really run down and emotional," she shared in an Instagram post in January.

Now, the comedian is bravely sharing her battle with endometriosis.

This is a painful disorder in which the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus grows on the outside, according to Mayoclinic.

It makes pregnancy very difficult for millions of women.

On Saturday, the *Trainwreck* star revealed that she got her uterus and appendix removed due to the toll the condition had taken on her body.

"So, it’s the morning after my surgery for endometriosis and my uterus is out," she said to the video taken by her husband at the hospital.

"The doctor found 30 spots of endometriosis that he removed. He removed my appendix because the endometriosis had attacked it."

"There was a lot, a lot of blood in my uterus and I’m, you know, sore and I have some, like, gas pains," Schumer added.

To spread further awareness about the condition, she shared a mirror selfie in her hospital gown.

"If you have really painful periods you may have #endometriosis," she captioned the post. She also took to Instagram Stories to thank her doctors.

"Peace out endometriosis! Thanks Dr. Seckin and Dr. Brill," she wrote over the photo.

Celeb pals took to the comments to offer their support to the comedian, and needless to say, it made my cold heart beat again.

"I am so sorry. Rest. Recover," commented actress Selma Blair who's been open about her struggles with MS.

F"eel better Amy!!! Thanks for spreading awareness," added talk show host Katie Couric.

Padma Lakshmi, *Top Chef* host and founder of the Endometriosis Foundation of America, commented.

"Thank you so much for sharing your endo story. Over 200 million women worldwide suffer with this. Hope you feel better soon!"

*Will & Grace* star, Debra Messing, also offered her support.

"Oh my goodness, 30?! So happy they are gone and you won’t have that pain anymore. Heal well Am!"

It was a super sweet comment that a lot of fans were happy to see.

Fans thanked Amy for using her platform to spread awareness on the condition.

"Thank you for talking about this disease- more women need to know about #endo and you have the ability to do that!" one wrote. Many shared that they also underwent intense surgery.

"Endometriosis is no joke. I suffered for years. Eventually had to have a total hysterectomy," this fan commented.

"Hysterectomy was the best decision for me. I woke up feeling better immediately- my uterus was adhered to my bladder. Sending you well wishes!" another wrote.

Thanks, Amy!

So, remember everyone, make sure you always do your regular family doctor checkups!
