With the Covid-19 pandemic still ongoing, it is making the return to school in 2021 quite difficult for many schools and districts. Many are trying to push for vaccinations of all staff and students who are of age, while others are requiring masks at all times.
However, there are some schools who are allowing an optional mask policy, where kids can opt-out of wearing them, too.
The Hamilton County School District opened its doors to students on Thursday, with many returning for the first time since the pandemic began. In light of the ongoing spread of Covid-19, the school said masks are required for all staff and students.
However, some parents received a form to "opt-out."
The mom decided to combat the administration and district staff who allowed parents to opt their children out of wearing masks to protect others in the school building.
The mom said she was trying to prove that opting out of policies is just not how it works.
The mom called out the East Hamilton school for their "misogynistic" dress code policy that cares more about young women showing their shoulders than their self-esteem and the way in which they view and see their own bodies as young adults.
The mom made it a point to say that if parents can choose to opt-out of the mask mandates, she should be allowed to opt-out of any policy she sees fit.
She chose the dress code to prove a point, as it's one she disagrees with.
The mom said that the bigger picture is that parents shouldn't be allowed to pick and choose whether or not their child wears a mask in the middle of a pandemic.
She used the dress code just as an example of a policy set in place that parents can't opt out of.
"My goal is to draw attention to the importance of mask usage in our schools. We need to base decisions around this issue on medical data and be guided by the recommendations of experts in this area," she said.
"Our cases and hospitalization rates in Hamilton County have spiked up in a big way the past few weeks. We are back to where we were last February. It's very discouraging.
There is a very loud contingency agitating against mask use, but I do not believe they are representative of most of us who want to keep ourselves and others safe," she shared.
Many said that this mom was brilliant in her way to give it "right back" to the school administration.
As they would allow parents to opt-out of one policy, they should have the option for all. It's only fair, right?
A vast majority of people online were rooting, cheering, and even looking and searching for who this mom is.
Many moms said they want to be her friend and have a drink or two with her, too.
