Wife Locks Out Unemployed Husband Who Keeps Interrupting Her With Requests

Being married can have a lot of ups and downs, but being married during the pandemic and having to spend every waking moment with your partner can be even harder. Having to be with each other all day, every day, is a lot to handle. Especially if you are working from home in this new, hybrid world. It's not easy taking time and space.

One wife recently opened up on Reddit, seeking advice about her own marriage during the pandemic.

The Reddit user shared that she and her husband have been married for 10 and have two kids together. During the pandemic, she has begun working from home.

However, her husband is currently unemployed. This has been making their living situation difficult.

The wife said her husband is constantly interrupting her during her work time.

"Thing is my husband would constantly barge in to my office and interrupt my work over simple requests he could get done himself. My work is usually with group and we constantly have group meetings too discuss projects," she said.

The requests are minimal things, too, according to the wife.

"Request such as:

Can you fix this issue in my phone?

Can you get the kids ready while I take a shower?/can you watch the oven while I make this phone call?

complaining about dishwasher/faucet/mixer/computer not working and asking me to stop working to get them fixed," she continued.

She tried to speak with him about it and at first, he was receptive.

"I've talked to him about how this has been impacting my work, I already handle the chores when I'm not working so I think 5hrs of work should be respected.

He'd apologize and say he didn't know then do it again and say it was spontaneously," she said.

However, he then went back on his word.

Two days after their talk, her husband "barged" in while the wife was on an important meeting and asked her to fix his tie for his plans later in the day.

She said it was embarrassing in front of her boss and supervisors and she was incredibly angry.

So, she bought a lock.

"I bought a lock later and installed it, when my husband got home in the evening and saw it he looked absolutely shocked. He asked what was the lock for and I replied that because of him interrupting my work sessions this was my only way," she continued.

Her husband was insulted and mad.

The husband said that he's insulted and it's "wrong" that the wife acts like he and the kids "don't exist" all day while she's working.

The wife did not budge, and instead, he said she should remove it. He also pulled the kids in, saying they'll be hurt, too.

The wife asked Reddit if she's wrong for installing the lock.

Many said the husband sounds like he's incapable of doing anything on his own.

"His excuse of not knowing or remembering how to do something is bs. Write it down in the notes app, google it, call a friend, there’s like a dozen different things he can do before resorting to bothering his wife at work," one person wrote.

Others suggested the wife talk to the kids on her own.

"I would get in front of it and talk to the kiddos directly. Tell them that mommy loves them very much, but needs this lock in order to be able to finish work and spend time with them after," another person added to the thread.
