Jada Pinkett Smith Opts To Shave Her Head Amid Mysterious Hair Loss Struggle

Sometimes it's easy to underestimate how much something means to us until we're about to lose it.

And while it's true that we don't necessarily need hair, it's pretty common to feel some degree of sadness or anxiety when it starts falling out. And it's even more worrying when you're not sure why it's happening since it could be a sign of another health problem that's more difficult to detect.

But when there's no reason to think that this hair loss is going to stop or even slow down, some people might find themselves making the decision to just shave it all away and at least take back some control over how they look.

And a recent Instagram post gives us reason to suspect that this is precisely what Jada Pinkett Smith is doing.

When she opened up about her long-time issues with hair loss, Smith revealed that her hair has always been important to her.

According to People, she said in a 2018 episode of Red Table Talk that, "Taking care of my hair has been a beautiful ritual and having the choice to have hair or not. And then one day to be like, 'Oh my god, I might not have that choice anymore.'"

So it was startling for her to say the least when it started inexplicably coming out in clumps.

In her words, "It was terrifying when it first started. I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, 'Oh my god, am I going bald?'"

She also expressed that this is why she's tended to favor shorter hairstyles in recent years.

Although there's often a genetic source for this kind of hair loss, Smith's case seems to remain a complete mystery.

As People reported, she hasn't come any closer to the answer even after consulting with various experts.

She described undergoing every kind of test there is for hair loss.

But in the end, she found that nobody who administered those tests can figure out why it's happening. It seems that none of the usual explanations apply in her case.

So in a move she credits her daughter Willow for inspiring, she decided to get ahead of whatever happens and shave her head.

As she wrote in an Instagram post, "Willow made me do it because it was time to let go BUT my 50’s are bout to be Divinely lit with this shed."

Both Willow's post revealing the new look and Smith's screen capture of that post have attracted a wide variety of well wishes from fans and friends who think she pulls off the shaved head look very well.

And since Willow is also known to periodically buzz her hair down, she likely had good reason to think her mom could rock the look as well.
