Internet Is Divided Over Woman Who Quit Her Job Dramatically: 'I Don’t Work For Free'

Being in a toxic work environment can be extremely hard to handle. When you have to go to a place that is unhealthy and unsupportive on a regular basis, it can seriously impact your life outside of your job.

Many people decide to quit their jobs and leave companies when they are toxic and bad for their sanity. However, not everyone quits in the same way.

A recent TikTok video has gone viral over the way that a former tanning salon employee quit her job.

Olivia Bason, also known as Olivetrizzle, shared a video of how she quit her tanning salon job to TikTok.

Bason shared she was quitting her job because "management sucks" and she gets taken advantage of way too much.

She shared the entire thing to her profile.

The first thing she did was let people know the store's closed.

Which, in fairness, at least that's a very nice way to start everything off. It could have been so much worse if she left it open.

In her step-by-step video breakdown, Bason first made a sign saying they were closed for the day.

It seems that at the time, she was the only employee to be at the store, so closing was her only option.

She then went and turned off all the lights.

If you're going to close the entire tanning salon, making sure all of the lights and machines are off is definitely crucial and key.

It's the responsible thing to do, as closing shift employees often have to do the same thing anyway.

Bason also clocked out of her shift.

Which, again, while she's quitting a little dramatically, is still a responsible way of doing things. She could have just never clocked out.

Of course, clocking in and clocking out is a means to getting your paycheck.

However, clocking out mid-shift means she's definitely not getting her full salary. However, she did the right thing and made sure it was taken care of.

After her TikTok went viral, she got into hot water with her former employer.

Bason shared in another video that her manager was now "withholding her wages" because she had not returned the tanning salon key within 24 hours.

She shared the text messages online and showcased the conversation with her former manager.

The conversation did not go over well.

Apparently, commenters who work at the same franchise company claim that there is a contract clause that says you are charged $300 for keys not returned.

However, Bason said she never did sign that kind of contract, although she knew about it.

People online were divided about the way Bason quit.

Needless to say, as usual, the internet had a lot of opinions that people felt the need to share.

Many people online said that they worked for the same company, or even other tanning salons, and understood Bason's feelings.

Many shared that tanning salons frequently underpay and overwork employees, causing them to have no other choice but to quit.

Other people claimed what she did was "respectful."

Bason not only locked up, she made sure to shut all the lights and also leave a sign for customers to know they were closed.

Some agreed that she quit gracefully to make sure that everything was taken care of.

Others, however, disagreed.

Other people online thought Bason made a "show" out of quitting just for TikTok views and Internet fame.

And they weren't the only ones who felt that way.

Others said that she would also put herself in a bad position for other potential employers, who probably wouldn't like that she did things this way.

Once something is on the internet, it stays there, so if someone looks her up when she applies for a job, this may not work in her favor.

Now, we want to hear from you.
