Being a bridesmaid can be a great honor. It can also be a crazy expensive proposition, easily costing some bridesmaids thousands of dollars. So, wouldn’t it be great to have some more solid numbers to work with before taking the plunge on being a bridesmaid?
That’s exactly why a bride has gone viral: for the ‘transparency letter’ she shared on TikTok in which she laid out exactly how much time and how much money her bridesmaids would need to commit. Honestly, it’s a breath of fresh air.
Costs can easily get out of hand for bridesmaids.

As Lisa Torres, who posts on TikTok under the handle @lisalovesrandom , explaind in a video , she’s been a bridesmaid before, and hadn’t realized just how much money and time is required.
Now that Lisa’s getting married, she wants to be fully transparent.
She wrote a ‘transparency letter’.

She didn’t share the letter itself, but explained the gist of it: all the things her bridesmaids could expect beforehand in addition to costs, like not having to go dress shopping with her if they live more than an hour away.
“Most importantly, I told them that they could say ‘no’ to being a bridesmaid. That we would still be friends, and they could keep all the gifts within the bridesmaid proposal box,” she said.
It’s a simple idea, but a good one.

In the age of social media, it feels like there’s more pressure than ever to make a wedding feel perfect. Lisa’s transparency takes a good amount of pressure off of her bridesmaids.
Wedding planning can be fraught with challenges.

Commenters opened up a debate on how appropriate it really is for brides to expect so much of their wedding party.
Regardless of personal opinions, it’s hard to argue with Lisa’s motive here. She also added that one of her friends did indeed decline to become a bridesmaid based off her letter, and that that hasn’t ruined their friendship in the least.
