Moss Chairs Are The Grassy Trend We Didn't Know Existed

Moss (a beautiful green growth from the fungus family), makes for wonderfully soft forest beds and ground cover. Coming in hundreds of varieties, textures, and colors, adding moss to your garden can give your home a wild, fairytale feel.

Ripe with nutrients and healthy bacteria, moss can be home to mushrooms, flowers, and tiny insects that help your garden grow.

Now, what if I told you it can also be used to make chairs?

Thankfully, they're used more for garden décor than for sitting.

As odd as it may sound, many people have fallen in love with the idea of "moss chairs". Planting them more for garden decor than for sitting (thank goodness), the grassy seats are perfectly at home among a wild forest setting.

The moss is planted within the chair's wireframe.

Upcycling old chairs in need of refurbishment, the old fabric and cushioning are removed to reveal the wireframe. Packed tightly within the wire, gardeners can then plant as many varieties of moss as they'd like (a similar method to how living garden sculptures are made).

It's a fairly simple DIY to get right.

Taking the old and giving it new life (quite literally), making your own moss chair is a fun DIY that almost anyone can get right. Once you plant the hardy moss, the rest of the job is out of your hands, as the moss grows and spreads to add volume, color, and depth.

What do you think, will you try it?

And since moss is already the perfect bed for many species of flowers, you can weave seasonal plants into your chair whenever you want, adding pops of color all year round.

What are your thoughts on the moss chair trend? Will you take a seat in its grassy arms? Or does it look a bit too similar to the moldy bread that's been sitting in your compost bin? Let us know in the comments below!
