DIYer Opts For Pink, Glittery Counters As Part Of Her 'Magical Girl' Kitchen Makeover

The best reason for embarking on a DIY project is that you are in control. Yes, you! You don't have to worry about negotiating with anyone (unless you live with a significant other, in which case, we can't help you there), and all the decisions are 100% up to you. That means that if you want to go ahead and give your kitchen pink, glittery counters, there's no one to stop you.

Before we even start, let's get this out of the way:

This is not a renter-friendly hack. I repeat: this is not a removable project. Only paint your kitchen counters pink if you own your home, okay?

I know this seems like a no-brainer, but better safe than sorry.

Let's get to it.

TikTok user @tazzykaze wanted pink glitter counters, so she got to work doing it all herself.

First, she coated her counters with two coats of heavy-duty primer.

Then, it was time for paint.

Another two coats of paint went onto the counter. I absolutely love that she went for a pink color — it's different, and fun, and totally unexpected!

The glitter came next.

She used two different methods for adding glitter to the counter. The first was a wall paint glitter additive that she added to polyurethane. The second was a glitter topcoat.

She said that rolling on the polyurethane created bubbles in the coating.

"When you're putting on the clear coating, I would use a brush. Don't use a roller at all. Brush all the same direction, and only brush while the paint is still very wet," she said.

The glitter topcoat wasn't that great.

"I was disappointed with the glitter topcoat. It's not very glittery, it just gives a little bit of shimmer," she explained. "It was pretty expensive, so I wouldn't buy it again."

All done!

The counters are done! This is crazy cool. I know it's not for everyone, but it is for me. If I wasn't a renter, I would totally do fun things with my house in fun colors!

If you want to go the glitter route, buy countertop epoxy.

Instead of buying something pre-mixed, get yourself a countertop epoxy kit and your own polyester glitter. You'll be able to control the glitter-to-topcoat ratio better, and you can choose your own glitter color.
