17+ Clever Designs That Came From Outside The Box

A lot of us have an abstract respect for creativity but it's not always easy to recognize it in our day-to-day lives.

Because while we can occasionally come across an idea that looks as good as it works, it's hard not to be a little nervous about some of the quick fixes people come up with when something stops working. And while it's not necessarily that we want their ideas not to work, we're very aware of the consequences that will arise if it doesn't.

But of course, looks can be deceiving and every now and then, we'll find ourselves surprised by someone's ingenuity. And deep down, some of the MacGyvers in our lives might be a little surprised their machinations worked as well.

This person considered paying £20 for a sled but ended up realizing they and their daughters could have just as much fun with what they already had.

With just a pallet, some curtain track, and 45 minutes of work, they were able to make something that works perfectly and looks the part to boot.

The uploader's recliner broke but they made sure it wouldn't be out of action for too long.

If anything, the decision to add a stick shift to the chair might make it even more convenient. The handle is definitely easier to reach, if nothing else.

This fully-packed U-Haul needed a little balancing out and the solution turned out to be pretty simple.

One big rock and a bunch of ratchet straps later and somebody had enough leverage to tow the trailer for 1,100 miles without incident.

I love it when a plan comes together.

I suppose nobody can accuse this Chinese restaurant of cherry picking their positive reviews.

But I suppose when only one out of 16 reviewers finds your food bland and tasteless, that inspires a fair bit of confidence in the rest of us.

I also like that they left the typos in for that extra authenticity.

This might be the first time I've seen a mug with a cookie holder but I can't imagine this one being complete without it.

I'd like to think that whoever made this originally planned to make a standard mug but couldn't bear the thought of seeing Cookie Monster without an actual cookie to enjoy.

Apparently, the center console of a dodge Ram 1500 has a math cheat sheet printed on the bottom of it.

Sure, it's situational at best and likely won't be useful when driving it, but I probably wouldn't have forgotten how to do trigonometry if I had something like this to look at every day.

When the power went out on a night where temperatures were hitting 95 degrees, somebody got desperate enough to create the setup we see here.

In case it's not clear, they took an old computer fan and hooked it up to an RC car, making what they described as "the jankiest battery powered fan I've seen."

It only had a marginal effect on their sweltering conditions but it was better than nothing.

Turning your car into a low rider is generally a pretty expensive endeavor but this person found a way to do it for cheap.

As we can see, he accomplished this by keeping the car's springs compressed with good ol' zip ties. It definitely achieves the aesthetic but I'm not sure how good that is for the car.

Although the uploader didn't have a camera mount to help keep tabs on their baby, that didn't mean they were sunk.

Yeah, it turns out they were able to keep that camera secure using only a guitar and a clamp.

And if they want to play a song for the little one, they've still got an even better guitar to do it with.

I guess not everybody just has a quiver lying around, but it appears that this archer didn't need one.

I wouldn't have thought this myself but I suppose I can't see any reason why a knee-high boot with a high heel on it wouldn't work just as well once you attached a strap to it.

Despite how it looks, I'm sorry to say that this truck isn't rolling through the streets on tank treads.

That said, those are indeed snowmobile treads. It's just that they're being used as mud flaps instead of for traction.

Welding units tend to be pretty cumbersome, which means clever welders usually need to find a handy way to carry them around.

Fortunately, such a prospect isn't as daunting as it may sound since this person proved that a simple shopping cart can do the trick.

I'm not sure how safe this is but I can't help but feel impressed that someone pulled this off at all.

Customizing a motorcycle is normally something that would require welding skills rather than carpentry skills, but I guess there's something to be said for playing to your strengths.

Our quick-thinking fixes to life's little challenges tend to satisfy us only inasmuch as they work.

However, one person discovered that over a year after they built this makeshift pot handle, the hostel they were staying in at the time is still using it.

It's nice to have a legacy.

It's always nice to see architecture make a little room for nature and whoever built this fence did that in a pretty satisfying way.

It's not terribly different from your average chain-link fence but it does have a specially made hole so this palm tree can comfortably grow through it.

Apparently, what we're looking at here is a homemade electric mountain board.

I can't say that I know what context one would use this in but I'm nonetheless impressed that one person was able to make something that goes at least 25 miles per hour on their own.

As we can see here, another person faced a similar problem when they had to attend a video call.

But since they had a table to work with, they were able to use something a little smaller than a guitar to prop it up.

All they had to do was connect a mallet to their tablet with a bike mount and they were ready to go.

Since we live in an age when people are more concerned about who else touched the buttons they push than ever, this is probably a welcome sight.

As the uploader explained, "My local grocery store has motion sensors in the elevator for pushing buttons."

Apparently, it's very common to wave your hand and accidentally visit the wrong floor but such slip-ups are still worth the peace of mind.

This woman has recently decided to take up video games and her spouse has developed a handy guide for a common point of frustration until she works up the muscle memory.

If that wasn't enough, they also have the layout for a Playstation's face buttons on the other side.

Since these buttons are arranged entirely differently on that console, that doesn't exactly make the new experience easier to get used to.

It can be pretty annoying when a handle breaks off the laundry basket but it's hardly the end of the world.

And it turns out that's especially true if you've got an old hockey stick lying around because this photo demonstrates that a piece of it can make for a sturdy replacement that fits like a glove.
