Well, scratch that: most people can appreciate a day at the beach. It's not supposed to be that hard to just sit back and relax and enjoy the sand and the sun and the surf. But judging from some recent TikTok drama, wardrobe choices can create some serious beef at the beach.
Home to some of the most beautiful sights in the world, Hawaii is most definitely an idyllic place to hit the beach.
One TikTok user did just that, but encountered more pushback than she was expecting.
Sims says she laid down to soak up some sun when a local woman took exception.
The woman apparently started running her mouth about Sims' bathing suit, saying, "No, I can't have that. That's not okay with me."
It doesn't look particularly scandalous to me, but I'm not well-versed in the customs surrounding Hawaiian beach wear. In any case, the uncomfortable situation persisted, as the woman just couldn't let it go.
This is kind of funny, as Sims pointed out that she was laying on her back, meaning her butt wasn't even visible.
It sounds like a few words were exchanged, and the woman said Sims should go join the college students on another beach.
Sims says she was hit with all kinds of reasoning — she was blocking the woman's view, that she should be respectful, and so on — but it ultimately boiled down to a woman picking a fight with a stranger.
In a second video, Sims reveals that the woman took her towel off and was wearing a thong bikini.
Sims says she had no problem with this choice, but did understandably find it a bit odd that a woman wearing a thong bikini would take exception to a woman wearing a regular bikini.
Whether it's due to sympathetic social media followers or people just thinking logically about the situation, the overall consensus seemed to be that Sims did nothing wrong, and that the woman needed to get over herself.
Some commenters noted that uptight behavior like this is par for the course when it comes to visiting some of Hawaii's more touristy areas.
It's a funny idea, but somehow I feel like going into twerk mode would have made the situation far worse.
It's important to respect local customs, but sometimes it's tough to parse the difference between local customs and nosey troublemakers.
