Mom Of Three Advises People To Stop Wasting Money On Baby Monitors

There are many things that new parents go out to buy when they know they're expecting.

From cribs to diapers to toys, there are some items that all new parents know they need. One of these is a baby monitor so that parents can keep an eye on their newborn when they're not in the same room or sleeping for the night.

Let's be clear: parenting is not easy.

Sometimes it just leaves you on the couch wondering how you made it through the day.

That's how completely tiring parenting can be. And everyone approaches the job differently.

Parents have different techniques and rules they use with their children, no matter the age.

And one thing no one wants? Any kind of shaming.

Despite the number of parenting books that exist, there actually isn't a rulebook to guide people through it.

That being said, sometimes parents do like sharing their helpful tips with other parents. Especially mothers.

Life can be hard sometimes, and there is nothing wrong with one parent helping out another.

Hey, no one said they had to take the advice. But at least it's out there!

Which brings us to our topic of discussion: baby monitors.

It's essentially there to make a parent's life easier, right?

Well, while some parents think baby monitors are a must, not all feel this way.

One TikTok user and mom recently shared under an "unpopular parenting advice" trend that parents shouldn't buy a baby monitor unless they "live in a mansion."

The mom said that the baby's going to "be near you all the time," and that the room is probably "right next to theirs."

The mom also said that baby monitors can cause "unnecessary anxiety."

She shared that for the first five months, the newborn will probably be in the same room as you anyway.

And, sometimes, parents think they have to go running every single time their baby makes a peep—which, isn't the case.

She claims that parents "are going to go nuts."

She shares that the anxiety new parents get from the monitor can be "life-changing" for some parents. The mom brings up moments where she has been with others on vacation or even spending time with new parents who "don't stop checking the monitor."

It can be hard to have a life away from the monitor for some parents.

The mom also says babies need to learn self-soothing.

She shared that monitors make parents feel they need to always go help the baby or go running, which doesn't let the baby learn any self-soothing strategies.

She claims that babies "fuss, roll over, and then go back to sleep" most times.

All that extra checking? She believes it's not necessary at all.
