10+ Times Prince Philip Made His Family Smile Over The Years

On April 9th 2021, the world woke up to the news that Prince Philip, husband of 74 years to Queen Elizabeth II, has passed away. The Prince is remembered as a loving father/grandfather, as well as a dedicated and loyal husband.

In order to pay homage to the wonderful life and legacy that Prince Philip is leaving behind, here are 10+ heartwarming pics of Prince Philip making his family laugh over the years.

May he rest in peace.

1. The happy couple began their lifelong journey together on November 20th 1947.

Her Royal Highness first met the future Prince when she was only a young girl.

Years later, they reconnected and fell in love while attending The Royal Naval College, located in Dartmouth.

2. Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II smile with delight on their honeymoon.

Philip and Queen Elizabeth II wed 74 years ago and honeymooned at Broadlands in Hampshire.

You can tell from the look in her eyes that the Queen is perfectly smitten. Philip was certainly quite dapper in his youth.

3. Fathers make the funniest faces.

Here's a lovely candid photo of the Queen and Prince with their two adorable children, Princess Anne and Prince Charles.

Clearly, Anne thinks his puffy cheeks are hilarious but Charles doesn't appear to be so sure.

4. In his younger years, Prince Philip was quite the athlete.

Prince Philip was an award-winning Polo player and had a reputation for being a fierce competitor.

But regardless of the stakes, Philip never took himself (or anything for that matter) too seriously.

5. Prince Philip's humor always came in handy during diplomatic meetings.

This happy photo of the Queen and Prince Philip was taken during a trip to Tuvalu in the South Pacific.

As you can see, Queen Elizabeth II is doing her best to remain Regal but everyone else is cracking up.

6. Prince Philip isn't above embarrassing his grandson.

Whatever it was that Prince Philip said, it appears to have tickled the Late Princess Diana.

William, on the other hand, looks like he just wants to disappear from sight. Who hasn't been made to feel like that by their grandparents at least once?

7. Prince Philip tests the reserve of his eldest grandson (again) during a ceremony at the Old College.

Why is it that the most serious moments in life always wind up being the hardest to withhold laughter?

It certainly doesn't help when you're grandfather is constantly joking around.

8. The Prince would often make his entire family erupt with laughter.

This photo was snapped during a contentious tug-of-war match at the Braemar Gathering.

I have no idea what Philip said, but it looks as if Charles may need a change of kilt.

9. A wedding is a great day for laughter.

This photo was taken during the wedding of Princess Eugenie of York and Jack Brooksbank at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Once again, Catherine (I miss calling her Kate) looks as if she's about to double over.

10. Prince Philip cracking wise at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

When this picture was taken, Pippa was still a Royal rookie; she hadn't yet mastered her stonewall composure.

Clearly, she's trying as hard as she can to keep from laughing. The Prince couldn't look more pleased with himself.

11. What do you think Philip said to make Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge laugh with such fervor?

You can always tell a genuine smile from a fake by looking at the eyes. One peek at Catherine and it's clear that she simply couldn't contain herself.

Also, did anyone else catch the very un-Royal act that's happening over the Queen's right shoulder?

12. Prince Philip is all about the jokes with his grandkids.

This photo was taken during the 2015 Rugby World Cup Finals, between New Zealand and Australia.

I'm not sure what Philip said to Harry but judging from that finger point — you can bet that it was something cheeky.

Clearly, William was wondering what all the fuss was about!

Move over Harry and let your big brother in on the punchline!

No matter where Philip happened to be, he never denied himself the opportunity to brighten his family's day with a joke and a smile.

13. A private moment between father and son.

Prince Philip was caught making his son Prince Charles howl with laughter during a trip to Poundbury. The Royal Family was attending a statue unveiling/dedication ceremony for Queen Elizabeth II.

What kind of dad jokes do you think Prince Philip used to crack?

14. Prince Philip's infectious laugh will be sorely missed by Queen Elizabeth II most of all.

Longevity in a marriage (Royal or not) is as rare and beautiful as true love itself.

Thank you Prince Philip for the smiles and all the joy you brought into this world. And in the words of the immortal Bard — "good night sweet Prince."

15. Prince George always did enjoy story time with his great-grandfather.

There aren't many young boys who are given the opportunity to go on daily carriage rides with their great-grandfather.

Even less who get their favorite storybook read to them by their regal patriarch.

16. Still making his wife (and Queen) laugh after 73 years of marriage.

Looking at this picture reminds me of my nana and papa — I'm getting whispy-eyed just thinking about it!

Also, that card is too adorable for words. Could it have been made by Prince George, I wonder?

17. The Queen and Prince Phillip were all smiles outside Windsor Castle

This striking picture of the Prince and Queen was taken on the eve of Prince Phillip's 99th birthday.

We should all be so lucky to live such a long and prosperous life.

18. Nothing brings family together quite like the birth of a newborn baby!

I've heard my fair share of dad-jokes and papa-jokes as a kid, but I've never heard of great-grandpa-jokes.

I hear that they're some of the corniest, cheesiest, most hilariously unfunny wisecracks going.

19. Country roads take me home...

Who doesn't appreciate a nice stroll through the countryside every now and again?

I know that the Queen is smiling but judging from her face, I think that the photographer is about to get a heavy tongue-lashing.

20. It isn't every day that you see Prince Phillip wearing a cowboy hat.

I wish there was more context to this picture, it raises so many questions. The look of incredulity on the Queen's face says more than words ever could.

You will be missed, Prince Phillip.

Needless to say, Philip loved his family more than anything.

You can see that through the amazing photos in the article, and by looking at his dedication to his wife and children over the years.

He will be missed by many.
