7+ Bad Beauty Habits We Seriously Need To Break Right Now

There are many things we do that we just shouldn't. Like we shouldn't spend our whole paycheck on things we don't need from Marshalls and HomeGoods, and we shouldn't spend our whole weekend bingeing shows on Netflix, but we do. Who does it harm, really?

But there are some things we do that are indeed harmful, and some of those have to do with our very own beauty routines.

Sleeping With Makeup On

I know, trust me. Taking off my makeup at the end of the night when I'm sleepy and out of energy is the last thing I want to do, but it's extremely important to do.

Sleeping with makeup on can clog your pores and cause irritation.

As if underwire bras aren't uncomfortable enough, we've all fallen asleep while wearing them, which is a major ouchy. Some ladies also just like wearing them to bed for extra support.

But the reason why you should really try not to purposefully sleep with one on is that it can cause breast irritation and even disrupt your sleep!

Popping Your Pimples

Pimples are so irritating for many reasons — there is no doubt about that. And while you think that popping them might give you some relief, it can be quite the opposite.

Not only can popped pimples leave you with scarring, but you also risk spreading bacteria into other open spaces like pores and lead to even more breakouts.

Just leave 'em be.

Using Dirty Makeup Brushes

Many of us don't even think about cleaning our makeup brushes, but I don't know why, because it's like using a knife for butter and never ever washing it. We need to do that.

Makeup brushes are like a broom for collecting bacteria and can cause skin irritation, breakouts, and even infections.

Over-Washing Your Hair

It might be tempting to want to wash your hair every day, especially if you have a more oily scalp.

And while you may not need to wait a week to wash your hair, it's all about preference and understanding that you don't need to wash your hair as often as you think.

Shampooing too often can leave your scalp and hair feeling more dry.

Leaving Your Razor In The Shower

The shower seems like a super normal area to leave a razor, but it's not the best area to store it for longevity.

The bathroom is a more humid environment due to moisture from showers and baths, and this moisture leads to dull razor blades.

Always carefully dry them with a clean towel, cover, and store in a dry room after use.

Working Out With Makeup On

Some people keep their makeup on for their workouts because they come to the gym from work, and others purposefully put makeup on to go to the gym. Neither should be done.

Sweat and bacteria can get caught under layers of makeup that will sneak into open pores, which can cause major blackheads and other skin irritation like acne.

Always keep some makeup wipes in your gym bag so you can easily wipe your face off before you hit the weights.

Wearing Nail Polish For Too Long

It might seem good that your polish has great staying power, or maybe you're just too lazy to take it off (a.k.a me), but neither are good.

You've got to let your nails breathe, or else they're prone to drying out. So, when the color starts to chip, it's a sign it needs to go bye-bye.
