'90 Day Fiance' Star Jay Smith May Be Facing Deportation Because Of ICE

There's a lot going on in the United States these days, and unfortunately, most of it is bad.

One of the hot topics is ICE and deportation. And it has found its way into Hollywood.

The scandal involves Jay Smith.

TLC

What do we know about this 90 Day Fiance star?

We know he met his wife, Ashley Martson, while she was vacationing at a resort for a friend's wedding.

We know that they connected via social media.

TLC

And six months later, when she returned to Jamaica, he proposed.

It's a modern love story!

We also know...

TLC

Jay has most likely connected with Ashley's two young children from previous relationships.

They also had a shotgun(ish) wedding in Vegas after receiving racist comments on their wedding website.

That's when tragedy struck.

TLC

Ashely discovered soon after they returned from Vegas that Jay had started up a Tinder account.

She filed for divorce on January 11, 2019, but changed her mind a couple of weeks later.

Why am I telling you all this?

TLC

You've seen the show, you know how this relationship went.

Well, I want to show you that despite their ups and downs, they are actually great people.

But a pair no more.

TLC

Since 50% of the pair might just get deported.

Yes, as of earlier this week, Jay Smith is in ICE custody and might just be facing deportation. As if things couldn't get any worse for the couple.

But how?

TLC

Aren't they a married couple? Doesn't that mean that Jay is a citizen now?

Well, not exactly. Apparently, he's being charged with a Violation of a Protection from Abuse Order charge. Uh-oh.

Upper Allen Police had this to say:

TLC

“The protected party lives in Upper Allen Township and reported a social media post made by Smith, which was in violation of the order,” the report reads.

“As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Smith. On July 3, 2019, Smith was taken into custody without incident.”

What does this all mean?

TLC

Womenslaw.org describes a "Protection from Abuse Order" as:

"A civil order that provides protection from harm by family or household members, sexual or intimate partners, or someone with whom you have a child in common."

So he abused someone?

TLC

Not exactly.

Apparently, according to sources, after they got married, Ashley forgot to "file his adjustment of status, meaning that he now faces the possibility of deportation."

What does that mean?

TLC

Well, it seems that citizenpath.org describes "adjustment of status" as the following:

"is the process of changing from a nonimmigrant immigration status (e.g. student, tourist, etc.) to permanent residence (green card holder)".

Ashley has called this the hardest day of her life.

TLC

Which, you have to feel for her.

If my husband for some reason out of nowhere just got deported, especially if it was because I forgot to file something, I'd be hurt too.

She also said...

TLC

In a recent Instagram post:

“I can’t believe this is how it ended. The amount of sadness I’m feeling is unfathomable. There is no celebrating over here, just pure heartbreak!”

So what now?

TLC

Well, it seems that Jay is going to have to go up against an Immigration judge.

If he's convicted, then he'll have to go back to Jamaica. A sad ending to this story indeed.

What can you do?

TLC

Not much, really. From what I've read, there's a good chance he gets deported.

Maybe the best you can do is set up one of those change.org pages?
