Celebrities are constantly being interviewed by the media, and sometimes reporters cross some boundaries that they shouldn’t.
But these celebs weren’t afraid to speak up for women everywhere, by clapping back, and putting interviewers in their place!
Taylor Swift.
In an interview addressing how Taylor often gets labeled as overemotional, and that she writes too many songs about past boyfriends and breakups, she clapped back at the comments by saying :
“That joke is so old, and it’s coming from a place of sexism.” Adding “If a guy shares his experiences in writing, he’s brave. If a woman shares her experience in writing, she’s over-sharing.”
Ariana Grande.
When an interviewer asked Ariana Grande “If you could use makeup or your phone one last time, which one would you pick?”

“Do you really go anywhere without your cell phone?” The interviewer responded.
“Yes.” Ariana quickly said back to him.

When people were questioning Ariana Grande and Big Sean’s relationship, she firmly let everyone know that it is possible for women and men to be just friends .
Anne Hathaway.
In an interview with Matt Lauer, he started off by saying:
“Good morning. Nice to see you. Seen a lot of you lately.”
“Let’s just get it out of the way. You had a little wardrobe malfunction the other night. What’s the lesson learned from something like that — other than that you keep smiling, which you always do?” He continued.
“And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants” she responded .
Anne Hathaway, again.
When an interviewer continued to press Anne with questions about her ability to fit into a catsuit, and what her workout regime was like, Anne finally had enough.
“Are you trying to lose weight? What’s the deal, man? You look great — No, no, seriously. We have to talk about this. What do you want? Are you trying to fit into a catsuit? ” She said .
Rihanna.
When an interviewer asked Rihanna what she’s looking for in a man, assuming that she needs to be looking for a boyfriend. Rihanna responded perfectly .
“I’m not looking for a man. Let’s start there.”
Rihanna, again.
During a press conference for the movie Battleship , a reporter starts off her question by applauding Rihanna’s success, but then quickly diverts to something way less appropriate, and asks who she’s dating, and if she has anything going on with Ashton Kutcher.
Rihanna’s response was priceless: “Wow, how disappointing was that question?” adding “I am happy and single, if that’s what you’re asking.”
Cate Blanchett.
During a red carpet interview, the cameraman filmed a slow pan of Cate’s entire outfit, starting at her shoes.
Cate bent down and said “Do you do that to the guys?” Calling out the cameraman for doing something he was only doing to the women on the red carpet.
Lauren Conrad.
When an interviewer asked Lauren Conrad what her favorite position was, she replied with zero hesitation:
“CEO.”
The interview actually got quite a kick out of that, and responded :
“CEO! I like that!”
Keira Knightley.
A reporter asked Keira what it’s like to balance her work and her personal life, and instead of answering the question, Keira snapped back with a better question:
“Are you going to ask all the men that tonight?” She said .
Mayim Bialik.
When a reporter asked Mayim if people ever think she’s actually as smart in real life as her character is on Big Bang Theory , she clapped back by saying :
“I actually was trained in calculus for several years. I’m a neuroscientist.”
Serena Williams.
After an interviewer insinuated that Serena lost a match because she was intimidated by the beauty of another woman, she was very quick to shut down the conversation.
Emma Stone.
As Emma Stone walked up to the microphone, ready to start answering questions, a reporter started things off by saying: “You look beautiful, as always,”
Emma sarcastically thanked him and said: “Oh, thank you. That’s all that matters.”
She managed to graciously accept the compliment, while also bringing attention to the unnecessary comment on her looks.
Elizabeth Moss.
After Elizabeth was asked to put her hand on display for the “mani cam,” she instinctually flipped off the camera.
In later months, Julianna Moore and Jennifer Aniston both expressed similar feelings about the mani cam .
Jennifer Garner.
After being asked several times on the red carpet if it’s hard for her to balance her work with her personal life, she asked her (now ex) husband, Ben Affleck if he had been asked that same question, but he had not.
So, at a later date, Jennifer gave an empowering speech about sexism, calling out all of the reporters who asked her that question.
Maisie Williams.
Game Of Thrones star, Maisie Williams, clapped back on Twitter after a headline unnecessarily sexualized the outfit she wore to a charity ball.
She pointed out that what she was wearing was a lot less important than what she was doing .
Megan Fox.
A reporter asked Megan if she thinks that it’s “time to see more superhero films with more superheroines with female leads.”
“Do you think that I would answer anything but yes to that question?” she snapped back at him.
Tom Hardy.
At a press conference for the movie Mad Max , at the Cannes Film Festival, a reporter asked Tom:
“As you were reading the script, did you ever think, ‘Why are all these women in here? I thought this was supposed to be a man’s movie?”
“No. Not for one minute.” he quickly replied .
Charlize Theron.
At that same conference for the movie Mad Max , another reporter asked Charlize how she managed to conjure up so much rage for her role in the movie.
“Where did all that rage come from?” He asked.
“Uh, surprise. Women have that” she answered.
Zooey Deschanel.
When Zooey was accused of not being a feminist because of the clothes she wears, she clapped back in an interview with Glamour , by saying that she is, indeed a feminist, adding :
“I’m just being myself. There is not an ounce of me that believes any of that crap that they say. We can’t be feminine and be feminists and be successful? I want to be a [expletive] feminist and wear a [expletive] Peter Pan collar. So [expletive] what?”
Adele.
In an interview with 60 Minutes, Adele opened up about how she deals with criticism about her weight .
“I’d lose weight if I was an actress and had to play a role where you’re supposed to be 40 pounds lighter, but weight has nothing to do with my career. Even when I was signing a contract, most of the industry knew if anyone ever dared say lose weight to me, they wouldn’t be working with me.” She said , adding “You don’t see music, you hear music.”
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
Tina points out that interviewers always ask what she and Amy “fight about” because they’ve been working together for so long.
“It’s sexist. It’s a sexist question because men aren’t asked what they fight about.” Amy said .
“No one’s ever like, ‘Will Ferrel and Mark Wahlberg, what do you guys fight about?” Tina added.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley.
Before even starting the interview, the reporter told Keira Knightley that she looked “worn out.”
Benedict immediately chimed in .
“That’s not a nice thing to say about one of the most beautiful women on the planet.”
Keira followed up that comment by saying: “Yeah! [expletive] you!”
Scarlet Johansson.
In an interview with Jeremy Renner, the interviewer asked her if she was able to wear underwear underneath her outfit while filming The Avengers .
“What’s going on? You’re like the fifth person to ask me that question. Since when did people start asking each other in this industry about their underwear?” She snapped back.
