If you call yourself a movie buff, then you probably take pride in the fact that you catch tiny details in films that most people would overlook. However, no matter how attentive you may be, there are some details that are so small, they’re almost impossible to pick up on.
And as small as these details might be, they can even change the entire meaning of the film.

1. Pulp Fiction
Have you ever noticed that before Vincent and Jules are shot at during the apartment scene, there are already bullet holes in the wall behind them? Although some people believe this to be the result of bad editing, others theorize that this instance is why Jules thinks a miracle has happened. I’d buy it!
2. The connection between The Fast and the Furious and Herbie: Fully Loaded
Although these two films have noticeably different themes and intended audiences, they are, in fact, set in the same universe. When Lindsay Lohan is touring around the scrap yard in Herbie , you can see Dom’s Dodge Charger — the same one used in the first Fast and Furious movie.
3. Heat
In Heat , one of Robert De Niro’s mantras is, “If you want to be making moves on the street, allow nothing into your life that you are not prepared to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you spot the heat coming ’round the corner.”
Later on in the film, De Niro flees a hotel after shooting and killing a former associate.
Al Pacino is coming towards him, so De Niro looks at Amy Brenneman’s character (the woman he’s fallen in love with) then back at Pacino. He looks at Brenneman one more time, then begins to flee. And this entire scene ? It takes place in 30 seconds flat.
4. Jurassic Park
This one’s easy to miss unless you’re looking very closely.
During the scene where the velociraptor enters the kitchen, it appears as though a hand is either guiding him towards the door or patting his tail.
This had led many people to believe that it was actually a group of evil humans controlling the dinosaurs and leading them to wreak havoc.
But, uh, it was probably just some guy working on the set. That plotline doesn’t come around until the Chris Pratt Jurassic World movies.
5. Braveheart
1995’s Braveheart seems relatively authentic and true to the times…that is, until you spot a few white cars in the background of one of the horse-charging scenes (check out the bottom-left corner).
Maybe Mel Gibson would have had an easier time fighting the other side had he been able to travel around in those white cars!
But seriously, we’re just going to pretend we didn’t see them.
7. Jaws
You would think that cries of, “Shark, shark!” would scare the living daylights out of literally everyone, but apparently not.
During the scene in Jaws when Roy Scheider’s character is trying to alert beachgoers to the shark, take a look at the man in the white bucket hat.
He’s literally dancing and laughing like the whole thing is just a jolly ol’ good time!
We get it, you’re an extra in the movie Jaws and you get to party on the beach all day.
But seriously, man, there’s a shark coming!
8. The connection between Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lord of the Rings
Really? A connection between Pirates and the Lord of the Rings movies?! If you pay very close attention, you can see that Orlando Bloom’s character in Pirates of the Caribbean sports a tattoo on the inside of his wrist.
Bloom got the tattoo with his castmates after filming The Lord of the Rings.
It means “nine” in Tolkien’s Tengwar (Elvish) script, which symbolizes that there were nine in the Fellowship.
9. There’s a connection between Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Pulp Fiction.
Nick Fury’s tombstone in Captain America: The Winter Soldier is engraved with the same fake Bible quote that Samuel L. Jackson’s character famously says in Pulp Fiction .
10. Alien
The scene where the crew discovers the huge Space Jockey was shot with Ridley Scott’s young children in spacesuits to save money on building a giant set piece. The production company was actually planning on cutting this scene before Scott came up with this clever solution.
11. The connection between Honey, I Shrunk The Kids and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Umm, that’s one extended universe I definitely didn’t see coming.
At the end of Honey, I Shrunk The Kids , it’s revealed that the shrinking machine is being held at the same warehouse as the Ark of the Covenant from Raiders .
12. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1
During the post-credits scene, Groot stops dancing whenever Drax looks at him. According to James Gunn, this is because he knows that Drax disapproves of dancing.
Bonus fact: The reason Drax turns to Groot in the first place is that he can see his reflection in the knife he’s cleaning!
13. Big Fish
In Big Fish, Ed tells Josephine that the milkman was his real father, but it’s played off as a joke. Later in the movie, when Will is telling the story of Ed’s life and all the people Ed had encountered show up at the lake, there’s a milkman standing in the background.
14. The Dark Knight
We all should have known that Bane wasn’t the child who climbed out of the pit in The Dark Knight because he literally told us he wasn’t. During his first fight with Batman, Bane says , “I didn’t see the light until I was already a man.”
How did I miss this?
15. Baby Driver
The mural behind Debra in the diner the first time we meet her is the same image as the one on the postcard that she sends Baby in prison at the very end of the movie.
16. Titanic
Looks like the people who made Titanic really did their research. During one of many heart-wrenching scenes in the film, an Irish immigrant woman is seen comforting her two children as the ship has started to go down.
To distract them, she tells them the tale of Tír na nÓg.
During the start of that scene, the mother makes a reference to “300 years.” This is a nod to the tale of Oisín and Niamh.
In the story, Oisín and Niamh fell in love and traveled to Tír na nÓg on a beautiful white horse.
They lived there for what they thought was three years but was actually 300 years.
The part of this tale that is linked to Titanic, however, is that in order to reach Tír na nÓg, Oisín and Niamh had to travel there by riding their horse under the waves of the sea.
Ugh, my heart can’t take this!
17. The connection between Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs
Many people believe that these two films are set in the same universe. This theory might have some truth to it, seeing as Steve Buscemi plays the same character in both movies.
In Reservoir Dogs, he talks about how he doesn’t tip waitresses because he used to work a job that society didn’t deem to be worth tipping.
And in Pulp Fiction , he’s working as a waiter.
18. Get Out
Towards the beginning of Get Out , Daniel Kaluuya and Alison Williams’ car hits a deer on the way to her parents’ home. Later on in the film, when Daniel Kaluuya is being held captive for his “surgery,” there’s the head of a male deer on the wall.
In post-Reconstruction America, a racial slur for a black man who challenged white authority was a “black buck.”
Needless to say, the filmmakers did an amazing job of integrating real history into this chilling film.
