Nature is kind of an all-encompassing category, and it holds within it infinite possibilities.
We might not always be able to predict what nature is going to bring, but at least we can appreciate the unique sights it presents us with.
Must be cold.
This is one of those fun winter tricks you can do if you live in an appropriately frigid climate: throw a pot of boiling water in the air and watch it instantly turn to snow.
Little by little.
This ice-covered roof is ever so slowly losing its icy covering. As the days get longer and the sun’s angle changes, another inch or two is melted with each passing day.
Not how you tree.
I think this is a bush at the base of an aggressively pruned tree, but it looks more like a tree that’s upside-down.
Hanging in the balance.
From a distance it looks like this icicle is floating, but it’s actually being suspended — just barely — by a delicate spider web.
Nature imitates nature.
You won’t find any elephants in Hawaii, but you might find this: a rotted tree that looks a lot like a pachyderm.
B****y gradients.
Blood oranges have some dramatically vivid colors, and the segments of this blood orange certainly don’t disappoint with their vibrant gradient.
More colors.
We think of carrots as being orange, but that’s actually a relatively recent thing. Carrots can come in all sorts of bright and unique colors.
Working hard.
We might not like seeing a book get destroyed like this but for the termites who ate through it, it’s all in a day’s work.
Extra lucky.
I’ve never been lucky enough to find a four leaf clover, but this person went out and picked themselves a five leaf clover.
Movin’ on up.
This incredible photo shows a cicada just after it emerged from its exoskeleton. You can see how tender its skin is.
Shifted.
It’s pretty common to see ice freeze around a chain link fence, but I’m not sure what would cause it to take on this particular pattern.
Fire cat.
It’s kind of appropriate that this person took a pic of their dear cat while the fire in the background did its best cat impression.
Snow grows.
The pattern of the melting snow on the back of this chair looks like the silhouette of a tree.
What happened to you?
Someone spotted this in Venice Beach, California. I don’t know if this pumpkin ever looked normal but it’s a sorry sight at this point.
Very big berry.
This strawberry looks a little flatter than most strawberries but what it lacks in shape, it more than makes up for in size.
Hidden sun.
I don’t know what wizardry is going on here, but this pic of a clear blue sky makes it look like part of the sky is blocking out the sun.
Crime scene.
This is one of those sorta-cool, sorta-upsetting things you might see in the snow from time to time: the imprint of a bird catching a mouse.
Icy spikes.
The antenna of this truck has grown a bunch of sharp looking ice crystals. It’s pretty cool how they can grow outward like this.
Extra ears.
This squirrel has, if you look close, four ears. I wonder if this actually helps the little guy hear any better.
Hitchin’ a ride.
This person stopped to help an injured owl, and the owl decided to hop into the car and hitch a ride.
