Obama Regrets Not Giving Dolly Parton The Presidential Medal Of Freedom: 'I'll Call Biden'

Dolly Parton is a national treasure, and she doesn't need any fancy award or medal to prove it. Given her love for shiny things, though, I'm sure she wouldn't mind one!

Former President Barack Obama has opened up about one regret during his presidency that he's hoping President-Elect Joe Biden will correct during his that has to do with Dolly deserving recognition.

Dolly Parton has pretty much done it all.

On top of being a music legend (Hello, "Jolene"? "I Will Always Love You"? "9 to 5"?!), Dolly has also done a huge amount of humanitarian work, ranging from her Imagination Library fighting illiteracy to her huge donations actually helping fund the creation of a coronavirus vaccine.

On a recent episode of *The Late Show With Stephen Colbert*, Stephen sat down with Former President Barack Obama and hit him with a tough Dolly-related question.

"How does Dolly Parton not have a Presidential Medal of Freedom?" he asked. The award is made to recognize people who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors," which sounds like Dolly to me!

"Looking back on your eight years, do you realize that's the mistake you made?" Stephen pressed.

“That’s a mistake! I’m shocked,” President Obama responded.

“That was a screw up. I’m surprised. I think I assumed that she had already got one, and that was incorrect," Obama went on.

"I assumed too!" Stephen replied.

I don't blame them for that — how is it possible she doesn't have one?!

"She deserves one," President Obama insisted.

"I'll call Biden!" he joked.

He better follow through, or he'll have some pretty angry Dolly fans on his hands!
