Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Has Gifted Over 100 Million Free Books To Children

Just when you thought you might have reached the end of the miles long list of reasons to absolutely love Dolly Parton, starting with her excellent music and ending with her wonderful personality (I love Dolly Parton, but I don't think I'm too biased here), think again.

Dolly founded her Imagination Library in 1995.

The Imagination Library started as a tribute to her father, who couldn't read, and its mission is to ensure that children all over have access to books by sending kids free books in the mail every month until they start school.

As of this year, The Imagination Library has sent over 100 million books.

“I never thought about being ‘the book lady,’” she said during an event in 2018. “The painted lady, yes, the overexaggerated lady. That goes to show you can’t judge a book by its cover.”

"If I'm remembered 100 years from now, I hope it will be not for looks but for books," she said.

The Library has stated that it has given away it's 130 millionth book during the month of December, and gave away at least 1,492,779 children’s books total that month.

That's amazing!

Not only has Dolly blessed our lives with iconic tunes, warmth, and laughter over the years, but she's also made such a huge difference in the lives of so many children who are learning to read!
