The story of one woman's decidedly bizarre meeting with a stranger in a gas station has been garnering quite a lot of attention across the internet-o-sphere, for not perhaps the best of reasons.
Social media personality Tabitha Swatosh recounted her tale of perhaps the strangest gas station encounter in recent memory on TikTok.
Yes, TikTok, the usual stomping ground of vacuous e-boys and e-girls who take ill-deserved narcissism to never-before-reached heights — and also the place where someone recently described people born in the late 90s as the "older generation".
Ms Swatosh — a name that sounds like the noise of a tennis racket thwacking against a crumpet filled with pennies — started her story by explaining that as she queued to pay for gas, a man behind her started complimenting her outfit.
Swatosh said that the man was about 50 years old, and told her, "Your outfit matches very nicely!"
Which, on its own may seem like quite an innocent and pleasant thing to say to someone! However, after this, things started to take a turn.
The man started by complimenting her shoes — again, quite a normal thing to do, I guess — before jumping straight in by asking what size shoe she wears.
She answered him, because I guess why wouldn't you? And then the man surprised her somewhat...
When Swatosh told the cashier, "$15 on pump three," the shoe-concerned man behind her said, "I'll pay for her gas."
Despite Swatosh's protestations, the man "insisted". However, as she started pumping her gas, the man-made another appearance in her life.
Yep, few of you could probably see that coming, which is quite a strange indictment of the world we live in really.
Swatosh said that she started laughing before the dead-serious wannabe-foot-observer pressed her again on the issue.
Now, funnily enough, Swatosh didn't have her rates to hand. And, I mean, that's understandable, right? I have yet to work out my rates for a picture of my foot. It's a tricky market to stay on top of.
The man then offered her $20!
Yep, after she flat out refused to sell a picture of her foot for $20, the man upped his offer.
And, Swatosh ultimately revealed that she had managed to sell a picture of her foot for $80! In the video she cried, "I don't know if that's legal, but I just sold a picture of my foot for eighty dollars!"
I mean, I'd imagine you'd have to put that on your tax returns, right?
Including paying for her gas, that guy forked out a whopping $95 on a picture of a random person's foot. He must either have been insane, incredibly wealthy, or a healthy blend of the two.
Maybe your rates would be a little higher or lower than Swatosh's new foot rates. I can't say that I'd be too keen on selling pictures of my foot, but that's mainly as I wouldn't want to have to put that on my tax.
Let me know what you make of this insanity in the comments below!
