A Virginia retirement home has put out a request for people all across the country to help them celebrate one very special resident’s upcoming birthday, Good Morning America reported.
Venus Tucker, a resident of Our Lady of the Valley in Roanoke, is turning 106 next week, and to mark the momentous occasion, the facility hopes to have 106 birthday cards mailed in time for the centenarian’s big day.
Tucker was born on August 13, 1914, and in that time has lived through both World Wars, eighteen presidents, and the first moon landing.

She married a railroad worker named Wesley, and has three nieces and one nephew. At 96 years old, her sister is also approaching centenarian status.
Tucker is an active member of the church and only recently stopped driving.
This week, Our Lady of the Valley put out a plea on Facebook to try and get Mrs. Tucker as many birthday cards as there would be candles on her cake.

Unfortunately, because of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, they won’t be able to throw the resident a traditional birthday party. But they hope presenting Tucker with 106 birthday cards will make up for that.
As the facility wrote online, “[We] want to make Ms. Tucker’s 106 birthday as special as she is to all of us.”
Despite her impressive age, Tucker is quite humble about her upcoming birthday.

“I don’t understand why I have been allowed to reach 106 years old,” she said in a statement to GMA. “I am blessed and moved by God and the Holy Spirit for keeping me here for so many years.”
As for what would make her birthday extra special, Tucker confessed she would love to enjoy some fried chicken.
The so-called “card party” will take place on August 13, so the retirement home is encouraging people to send their cards before the big day.

If you would like to pass along some well wishes to the birthday girl, you can send a card to:
