Linkin Park Sends Donald Trump A Cease And Desist Over Use Of Their Music

It might be a bit of an understatement to say that Donald Trump is pretty controversial politician. For many people, you either love him or you hate him. The same is true for celebrities, especially musicians who find out that their music is being used by the President's campaign for re-election.

Some artists are happy to have their music used by the President, and others are decidedly not.

The latest issue surrounding music began when the President's social media advisor, Dan Scavino, shared a video to his Twitter feed.

Donald Trump retweeted the video, which was set to a cover version of Linkin Park's song "In The End," and was a promotional video for Trump's re-election in November.

Shortly after, the video was taken down by Twitter, who claimed it was "in response to a report by the copyright owner."

Linkin Park then made a statement on the use of their song.

"Linkin Park did not and does not endorse Trump, nor authorize his organization to use any of our music. A cease and desist has been issued," they tweeted.

Although the song was a cover, the cover artist Jung Youth also tweeted that he was against the President using the song.

Some fans were not happy and felt that by making a statement, Linkin Park was alienating their fanbase that might support Donald Trump.

However, as other fans pointed out, it was a legal issue more than political.

"It's not a politcal issue. it's a copyright law issue. music is for EVERYONE regardless of political affiliation. But please read into what the actual law is and why you can't just use music in your video without payment or licensing," one fan responded.

This isn't the first time this issue has arisen.

Music from artists like Ozzy Osbourne and Tom Petty have also caused the Trump campaign to receive cease and desists.

What do you think? Should these bands continue to speak out or should they ignore it? Let us know in the comments!
