10+ Facts About 'Game Of Thrones' And 'Marvel' Star Kit Harington

Kit Harington stole our hearts as Jon Snow in HBO's monumental fantasy series Game of Thrones. Since then, he's fastly become one of the most popular actors in Hollywood.

Below are 10+ facts about Game of Thrones star Kit Harington that even hardcore fans don't know.

Trust me, there's a lot more to him than just a broody demeanor and a killer smile.

1. He didn't always want to be an actor.

When Kit was still a young man, his aspirations were more in line with the likes of Christopher Hitchens, as opposed to Marlon Brando.

Kit had originally wanted to be a cameraman, as well as a foreign affairs correspondent/journalist.

2. Planes have a strange affect on him.

HBO

"I always cry on a plane. There's something romantic about being on a plane going somewhere, being at that altitude.… I like a good cry every now and then."

That's funny, planes make me want to cry too! Only for totally different reasons.

3. Kit has a serious love for *Sesame Street*.

HBO

"I was a massive Sesame Street fan when I was little. I wasn't allowed to watch TV if I was ill and had to stay home from school—because that would encourage me to stay home. The only thing I was allowed to watch was Sesame Street."

He goes on to explain how this was a huge mistake on his mom's part.

"It backfired on Mum, because I would want to stay home just to watch Sesame Street."

Kit goes on to say how it's a dream of his to one-day appear as a guest on the show.

Kit's wish hasn't come true yet, but he did participate in Elmo's #sharethelaughter campaign

"What do birds give out for Halloween? Tweets."

Not bad Kit, not bad at all. If Sesame Street doesn't come knocking, you definitely have a shot on the amateur 'dad joke' circuit.

4. It was difficult for him to walk away from Jon Snow.

HBO

In an interview, Kit describes his emotions on the final day on set.

“I took off the costume, and it felt like my skin was being peeled away. I was very emotional. It felt like someone was shedding me of something.”

5. Kit has arguably the best 'lost' audition tape to ever surface.

IMDb

In the video, we see Kit auditioning alongside Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon. Kit's incredible sense of humor is on full display throughout.

When he asks Toothless "do I come across as too broody?" I absolutely lost it!

6. He has a very odd connection to Queen Elizabeth I

Kit is the descendant of Sir John Harington, who famously invented the first flushing toilet for her Majesty.

If you've ever wondered why the slang term for a toilet is "the john", now you know!

7. Kit isn't his real name.

HBO

His birth name is Christopher Harington, Kit's just a nickname that was given to him by his parents.

As a matter of fact, Kit didn't even realize his name was Christopher until he was eleven years old!

8. He's a huge horror movie fan.

Kit loves a good fright flick! Some of his go-to's include the Scream films, The Ring, as well as my personal favorite The Shining.

I'd definitely pay to see Kit in a remake of Scream!

9. He wrote a *Game Of Thrones* inspired love-song for his wife, Rose Leslie.

Rose is the love of Kit's life both on and off the screen.

To show her just how much he cares, Kit re-worked the lyrics in "Wild Thing" to "Wildling", a reference to Rose's character Ygritte.

10. Fun fact: it was actually Nicole Kidman who pressured Kit to pop the question to Rose in the first place!

Both Kit and Nicole were guests on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

After informing both James and Nicole that he and Rose had recently moved in together, Nicole was quick to ask him when he would be getting engaged!

11. Kit enjoyed the isolation that came from working on *Game Of Thrones*.

"There's no bar down the road you can go to; there's no restaurant. You stop at four in the afternoon when it gets dark, and you have the whole evening to kill. That sounds claustrophobic and dull, but it's wondrous because you're with this family."

12. Kit has troubles with claustrophobia.

HBO

"I've got a few fears, spiders being one of them, but the worst is my claustrophobia - I'm mortally afraid of crowds. I panic."

As you can probably imagine, this made filming "The Battle of the Bastards" episode incredibly difficult.

13. He's officially been confirmed as one of the newest additions to the MCU!

Kit is set to play Black Knight in the upcoming Eternals film.

This will be the 4th and final phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will look to introduce a wide array of new characters.
