Alanis Morissette Opens Up About Having Hope After 'Devastation' Of Multiple Miscarriages

There is a whole lot more that goes into becoming a mother beside the birds and the bees!

But thankfully, some women are speaking up about the darker side of trying to start or expand a family.

Ironic singer, and mother of three, Alanis Morissette, opened up in an interview on Dax Shepard's podcast, Armchair Expert, about her "devastating" history of miscarriages.

In case you missed last Friday's episode of Dax Shepard's podcast, *Armchair Expert*, Alanis Morissette opened up about the darker side of trying to start a family.

While her story was certainly on the darker side, it was able to possibly raise awareness on a topic that is normally taboo.

Alanis, who is now a mother of three, Ever Imre, 9, daughter Onyx Solace, 3, and Winter Mercy, 10 months, revealed that along the way, she had "a bunch" of miscarriages.

“Not all of it was the ideal situation,” she said.

I truly can't imagine it.

Getting through those difficult times has taught Alanis and her husband, Mario Treadway (better known as rapper Souleye), how to resolve discrepancies between each other.

“Yeah you know, a lot of divorces happening now," she said.

"You know what because those of us who want to exit, those of us who are flight-ers, we can’t flight,” she went on.

“So what are you gonna do, go into the next room and brood I guess for a while?"

"I’m laughing but it’s not funny," she added.

She explained that whenever she's feeling like a worse version of herself, she simply lets her husband know to steer clear.

Tbh, this sounds like a really great tactic for avoiding conflict in a marriage.

“I just kind of announce lovingly as best as possible when I go into a room [that] I’m cranky mom right now," she said.

I'm going to use this with my significant other going forward — it seems like a surefire cure for bickering!

Anyways, she went on to reveal that in the process of her and her husband trying to start a family, there were a lot of turbulences.

“I had a bunch of miscarriages," she said.

“We were chasing and just showing up and then surprises and then devastations and all of it."

Despite being faced repeatedly with the same taxing adversity, she said that she always managed to stay hopeful.

“But, I mean, I do trust, I have this trust pilot light thing that keeps cooking along," she continued.

"Even when there’s a torrential downpour it’s still flickering — of hope and faith and vision for something to work out, whatever it is.”

She added that her optimism is something that has always managed to keep her head above water.

She explained that even when she's in her darkest hours, there's always still a sliver of optimism that gets her through.

“I’m an optimist who will get depressed and cry, but at the end of the day there’s still that little light,” she said.

“That little star of Bethlehem keeps dangling over there," she added.

Side note: In case you missed it, Alanis has a whole album coming out this summer.

She has already released a few singles from it, so yeah, the anticipation is real.

She confirmed that the album is set to be released in "early July".

When asked by Dax what her songwriting process was like for her upcoming project, she revealed that she is constantly thinking of new ideas for songs in a non-cohesive way, and eventually the tracks come together.

But she added that she hates when songwriting feels like a chore, or "homework".

When there's no pressure to write the songs, that's when they come pouring out.

But knowing that she has to write a song, or feeling like she needs to write during a designated period of time always throws her off her game!

What do you think of Alanis Morissette's recent interview on Dax Shepard's podcast, *Armchair Expert* — revealing that she has suffered from "a bunch of miscarriages".

Obviously, it's a very sad story, but we're happy to see she continues to be as hopeful as possible.
