Dwyane Wade Reveals His Daughter Knew She Was Transgender When She Was 3-Years-Old
Wade has recently said on 'Good Morning America' that the revelation was a long time coming, stating, "Zaya has known for nine years."

Zaya is currently 12, which would make her 3-years-old at the time. When asked if he also was aware of Zaya's identity early on, Wade replied that "I knew early on I had to check myself."
"I've been a person in the locker room that has been a part of the conversation that has said the wrong phrases and the wrong words myself."

"My daughter was my first interaction when it comes to having to deal with this conversation," Wade said. "Hopefully I'm dealing with it the right way."
Wade explained that that he's confident their family has been doing the right thing.

"Inside our home we see the smile on my daughter's face, we see the confidence that she's able to walk around and be herself and that's when you know you're doing right," he said.
"It was a process for us to sit down with our daughter and find out what she likes and who she is," Wade explained.

"She was the one who sat down with us as a family and said, 'Hey, I don't think I'm gay.' And she went down the list and said, 'This is how I identify myself. This is my gender identity. I identify myself as a young lady,'" Wade stated.
Zaya is lucky to have such loving and supportive parents who were willing to listen to her and help her grow!
