Camila Cabello Apologizes For 'Embarrassingly Ignorant' Racist Posts

It's been a big year for Camila Cabello. Her duet with Shawn Mendes, "Senorita", not only dominated the pop charts, but also landed her in one of the most covered relationships of the year. She's just announced a world tour for her sophomore album Romance and performed alongside Taylor Swift as she was honored with the Artist of the Decade award.

However, one fan on Twitter decided to create a thread of racist posts found on Camila's tumblr account.

The Twitter account @motivatefenty tweeted a thread of screenshots with links to (since-deleted) tumblr posts made and reblogged by Camila in her teens.

These posts included many racist stereotypes and jokes.

One instance also involved Camila referring to her friend by the n-word, and others involved her reblogging racist jokes about many minority communities, including black people, Asian people, and Mexican people.

This isn't the first time Camila's been accused of using this hurtful language.

In 2018, screenshots emerged of messages allegedly obtained by someone hacking into Camila's phone that included messages in which Camila referred to her then-bandmates by the n-word.

Camila took to Twitter and her Instagram story to address the language she had used.

" When I was younger, I used language that I’m deeply ashamed of and will regret forever," she wrote.

"I was uneducated and ignorant."

"Once I became aware of the history and the weight and the true meaning behind this horrible and hurtful language, I was deeply embarrassed I ever used it."

"I apologized then and I apologize again now."

"I would never intentionally hurt anyone and I regret it from the bottom of my heart." Camila then emphasized that at the time, she was only a teenager who didn't know any better.

"I'm 22 now, I'm an adult and I've grown and learned and am conscious and aware of the history and the pain it carries in a way I wasn't before."

"The truth is I was embarrassingly ignorant and unaware. Those mistakes don't represent the person I am or a person I've ever been. I only stand and have ever stood for love and inclusivity."
