Black Friday isn't just a battleground for bargain hunters — it's also a no-holds-barred brawl between retailers trying to get as many of those bargain hunters into their stores as possible.
In the spirit of kicking off the holiday shopping season, the folks at Target are trying to get a jump on some of their competitors.
Rather than waiting until the turkey and all the trimmings have been digested and the leftovers put in the fridge, Target will be opening its doors to Black Friday shoppers on Thanksgiving Day, starting at 5 p.m.
The store will re-open Friday at 7 am for those of us who don't want to crash the doors and brave the crush of crowds with a gut full of mashed potatoes and gravy.
Costco, Lowe's, Sam's Club, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx, among others, are making sure their workers take the holiday off, according to BestBlackFriday.com.
State laws in Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island also forbid retailers from opening for business on Thanksgiving Day.
The company is staffing up for the rush, bringing 130,000 workers on board, and according to Business Insider, employees and execs have adopted a new motto for the holidays: WWABD, which stands for What Would A Badass Do.
"It's not an official slogan but an expression of the determination and commitment our store team members have in creating a superb experience for our guests during the busiest and most important time of the year," a statement from the company said.
