Jennifer Garner Opens up on Her Efforts to Not See Her Ex-husband Ben Affleck in the Press

The couple, who shared three children while married from 2005 to 2018, has remained friends, but the 50-year-old actress would rather not follow their lives online.

In this week's issue of Stellar Magazine, the 13 Going on 30 star says, "I really work hard not to see either of us in the press."

She added, "It doesn't make me feel good, even if it's something nice about one of us. I just try to forget that I'm out there in any way and the same with anyone I love. I don't need to see anyone in my family made into a meme."

Garner and Affleck have three children: Violet, 17; Seraphina, 14; and Samuel, 11.

Over the last decade, the Air singer has been the target of several memes, ranging from viral interview videos to his reaction during the 2023 Grammys.

When asked if she had seen any of her ex's social media memes, the actress said, "Although I'm sure he's quite meme-worthy, yes!"

In a March interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck discussed his co-parenting relationship with Garner and the importance of making time for his children.

He said, "One of the reasons I [decided to run my own company] was, I'm divorced. I share custody. I don't want to go to Austin and New Orleans and Georgia anymore and not see my kids. It just doesn't work."

Affleck continued, "These years are too important. If I miss them, I'll regret it for the rest of my life. And then I thought, OK, well, if I'm in Los Angeles and I'm in an office and I'm doing this work, I can step out for the basketball game or the jazz performance. So I protect those things."

Since 2018, Garner has been in a relationship with her businessman lover John Miller.

And Ben married Jennifer Lopez, a singer, and actress, last year, rekindling their romance 20 years after they were engaged.

Jennifer and Ben met on the set of the box office failure Gigli in 2001 and engaged the next year.

After postponing their planned 2003 wedding owing to excessive media attention, the pair remained together for a few more months until announcing their separation in an early 2004 statement.

The former pair both get into relationships with other celebrities, with the Waiting for Tonight singer marrying her now-ex-husband Marc Anthony and later being engaged to former MLB player Alex Rodriguez.

Garner and Affleck's relationship was questioned after the Argo star appeared to blame his drinking on his marriage to Garner.

In December 2021, the Air singer provoked outrage when he told Howard Stern in an interview that he felt "trapped" during his marriage to Garner and that it was "part of why" he began consuming alcohol.

He said of his marriage to Stern, "Part of why I started drinking alcohol was because I felt trapped."

Affleck has now commented on the criticism he suffered as a result of his words, which he described as a "very unpleasant experience," and he claims the statements were taken out of context and were "really the opposite of what [he] meant."

Affleck stated, "To be clear, my behavior is my responsibility entirely. The point that I was trying to make was a sad one. Anyone who’s been through divorce makes that calculus of, how much do we try? We loved each other. We care about each other. We have respect for each other."
