Tems Slammed For Her Oscars Outfit Blocking The View Of People Behind Her

Tems has gone viral for wearing an enormous headpiece at the 95th Academy Awards at Dolby Theater in Hollywood, leaving audience members unable to see the stage.

The Grammy Award-winning artist opted for a dramatic white dress with a long train and a huge shoulder piece wrapped around her head.

While the beautiful singer certainly looked enchanting in the outfit, many social media users were displeased because she completely blocked the view of those around her with the gigantic headpiece.

Twitter quickly erupted with memes about Tems' look, with one person writing, "What people sitting behind Tems are seeing," alongside a photo of a white curtain.

A second user confessed that they were certain anyone sitting behind Tems was very upset, while another joked that it would be painful scoring an invite to the Oscars only to sit behind the singer.

An angry respondent shared the same opinion saying, "If I was sitting behind Tems, I would be pissed. Oscars need to enforce a dress code after this year for a mess like that."

While some netizens slammed Tems, others defended the singer, with one of her supporters claiming that if anyone was sitting behind the greatness known as Tems, they were perhaps not just that important.

Another supportive tweep said the audience members' inability to see the stage wasn't Tems' issue. A third person called the singer a queen, adding that next time, the audience members should hustle for the front seat.

Other Twitter users also blamed it on the creators of the bizarre outfit. According to a respondent, Tems' designers should have thought it through.

Another person shared the same sentiment noting that although the outfit looked stunning, the designers should have made the top part detachable.

Tems was nominated for Best Original Song alongside Rihanna for the song Lift Me Up, which was included in the soundtrack of Marvel's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. 

However, Tems' song was up against some top competition, including Diane Warren's Applause from Tell It Like a Woman and Lady Gaga and BloodPop's Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick.

Unfortunately for the singer, the Oscar went to Naatu Naatu from RRR, composed by MM Keeravani, with lyrics by Chandrabose and vocals by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava.

Despite the outcome, Tems' exceptional contribution to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever did not go unnoticed, and fans eagerly anticipate her future work.

Tems didn't win an Oscar, but the Afrobeats singer has persisted in making a big name for herself and remains an inspiration to many young female artists. 

A few weeks ago, she, alongside fellow Nigerian singers Burna Boy and Rema, headlined the NBA All-Star Game 2023 halftime show with an afro beats-themed performance.

Before the event, Tems bagged her first Grammy award for the Best Melodic Rap Performance category for contributing to the hit song Wait For U with Future and Drake.

In addition, for her amazing work on the Renaissance album and Wait For U, the singer received two other nominations in the Album of the Year and Best Rap Song categories. 

Tems also bagged a Grammy nomination for Best Global Music Performance in 2022. Overall, the singer is a gifted artist who looks set to bag more Grammy Awards in the coming years.
