Cara Delevingne is all about keeping it real.
The 30-year-old British model may be one of the most glamorous faces in the fashion industry but, at the end of the day, it’s all just a job. Believe it or not, she’d rather be “ugly and real” than have a face full of makeup.
Delevingne told Australia’s Stellar Magazine, “Modelling is the opposite of reality; it’s this glamorized version. I prefer to be grounded in reality and to be ‘ugly’ and real and all the bits that people don’t see.”
She did admit, though, it wasn’t always easy.
“To be able to do that is challenging, especially if you're trained to look good all the time or be perfect,” she said.
The London native added that working as a model is a lot like acting “because that's not me.” And although wearing makeup is part of the job, she admitted she didn’t like doing that every day.
“I can't spend an hour getting ready,” she explained.
Delevingne has a docuseries coming up titled Planet Sex, which will premiere in the U.S. on Valentine’s Day. It previously aired in the U.K.
In the six-part series, the Paper Towns actress, who identifies as “openly queer,” talks about her sex life and explores her sexuality.
“I love men but, oh, I love women and everyone else,” she says in the trailer.
She travels the world “to meet people like me and others very unlike me” and “to discover what else there is.” She also gets raw about her experience coming to terms with her gender identity.
The trailer shows her speaking candidly about “growing up with a lot of shame thinking this isn’t normal, this isn’t human, but it’s like, it is.”
Delevinge has dated both men and women, including actress Ashley Benson from 2018 to 2020 and singer Annie Clark, a.k.a. St. Vincent, from 2015 to 2016.
The Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets star has also been romantically linked to Jack O’Connell, Michelle Rodriguez, Harry Styles, and Miley Cyrus.
The model-slash-actress is starring with Orlando Bloom in the second and final season of the Amazon Prime Video fantasy, Carnival Row, as well, which will premiere on February 17.
