National champion Devin Willock surprised a young fan by letting him wear his championship ring. Unfortunately, the incident happened just a few hours before he died in a car crash. The sports world mourns the loss of Willock and a staff member, Chandler LeCroy. 

Willock Let A Young Fan Wear His Championship Ring Hours Before His Death

Willock made a seven-year-old extremely happy a few hours before his death. The incident happened in a restaurant after the Bulldogs' championship parade. On Saturday, the offensive linesman bumped into a fan, Sam Kramer, and his grandson, Camdyn.

Per DailyMail, Kramer has been a lifelong Bulldogs fan. He shared with WJCL that the redshirt sophomore gave him a fist bump before noticing his grandson. Willock then decided to let the young boy try on his championship ring.

Kramer also shared pictures of the encounter on Twitter, thanking Willock for making his grandson feel special. A day before the tragic car crash, Willock also quote-tweeted the picture with three heart emojis. 

Willock Was Pronounced Dead On The Spot

The offensive lineman and University of Georgia football recruiting staffer, Chandler LeCroy died in a car crash on Sunday morning. The crash happened around 2:45 am in Athens, Georgia. Willock was a passenger in the car and passed away immediately at the age of 20.

LeCroy Passed Away At The Hospital

The car was driven by LeCroy who was taken to a nearby hospital. However, she died shortly after at the age of 24. There were also two other unidentified passengers in the car, a 26-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man. They were seriously injured but are in stable condition.

There Were Survivors

Sources from ESPN shared Warren McClendon, a junior offensive lineman was also involved in the crash but is stable. A day before the crash, McClendon was declared for the 2023 NFL draft. In the recruiting class of ESPN 2020, Willock was ranked the No. 39 guard in the country. He was also ranked the No. 17 prospect from New Jersey, his home state. 

President Joe Biden Shared His Condolences

Once word of the death of Willock and LeCroy got out, many people took to social media to share their grief. President Joe Biden was in town to deliver a sermon at an MLK service. He heard of their tragic deaths when Sen. Raphael Warnock told the church and said his prayers.

Head coach Kirby Smart shared his condolences. He described Willock as "always smiling"  and a great teammate. He also said LeCroy had an incredible attitude and energy. The University of Georgia President, Jere W. Morehead also released a statement. He sent his and the university's thoughts and prayers out to their families. UGA Athletics Director Josh Brooks shared they were working to make sure student-athletes have the support they needed. 

Others In The Sports World Send Their Condolences

People from the sports world were also quick to send their tributes. Although McClendon was also involved in the crash, he expressed his condolences on Twitter. LSU head coach, Brian Kelly also sent his condolences to their families.

Others include Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey. Former football player, Robert Griffin III, and former UGA football star Rennie Curran also sent their condolences.
